Herpes in the ear?

Hi board! I'm really concerned about something! A friend of mine was over and we were wrestling around in the living. He's gotten cold sores since we were kids, I've never gotten them before (I've been tested annually and I'm negative for both kinds). Well, he was laughing and a big glob of saliva dripped from his mouth into my ear canal! He didn't have any cold sores at the time from what I've noticed, but I'm concerned about getting some sort of infection that way! I've seen pictures of herpes on the mouth and ears, and I'm concerned about getting either with this situation! Is this a worry at all? I read here on webmd that you can get it through infected saliva! Ahhh!! Any clarification would be great!

Hi Anon,

I'm so sorry for your scare. Have you seen any type of reaction in your ear as of yet?

If not, please don't worry yourself too much. While "both HSV-1 and HSV-2 can be spread even if sores are not present," your friend did spit in your ear, instead of having contact with the immediate site that becomes infected.

I'm not a medical professional, but think that you should contact your doctor if you are stressed about this situation. I do want you to encourage you to relax if no symptoms are present, though. Here is the Herpes Simplex Type 1 and 2 Overview for you to read over and speak to a professional.

Please keep us posted and take care!

saliva is a poor way to contract herpes. this really is not a worry at all for you.
Talking about std testing is NORMAL and something we all should be doing EVERY TIME before we have sex with a new partner :)
