What's Happening Now
*deep breaths
and really, even when I was being "bad' it's still instinct to eat better and to eat only until I'm hungry now, not just until my plate is cleared. In fact, I'm back down to 137.8 which is still a little gain but nothing like what I feared was happening.
Back to the gym regularly.
Back on track with food journaling, paying more attention to my moods and when my tummy is saying "Stop!". Maybe not losing any more weight, but that doesn't mean I have to stop being vigilant and caring about my body. Trying to ignore what people say, and focusing on my victories of size 5 pants (on these Italian thighs, that's a big deal!) and my energy levels.Tomato, thanks a lot. Helped clear my mind a lot. How goes your progress?View Thread
Anyways, I'm a 26 year old female with a 5 year old daughter and 6 month old son. I'm 5'5 and I weight 150 lbs. I know I'm not obese, but I'm not happy with how I look.
When I was 19-20, I weighed 115 and I was healthy and trim. Not too skinny, but toned and overall I had a great body. I know I'm not that young anymore and I had no children, but I'd definitely like to be at 120. That's my goal.
I've been watching what I eat and I take in about 1200-1500 calories a day AS WELL AS working out on my elliptical machine 5-6 days a week for 20-30 minutes. (Burning 200-300 calories each session. I'm new still. My body's beginning to get used to the burn.)
My question for everyone is how long should I see results. I'm definitely going to stick to my routine here! Also, if I do keep up the good work, how long would it take me to reach my goal of 120 lbs? Does anyone have any other suggestions besides the cardio I'm doing as well as the calorie intake?
Thank you!!

Sometimes we need a tool to help us along our journey. I was eating healthy and having good snacks, sticking to 1200 calories today, drinking more than enough water, but the scales didn't move. That decision in December changed everything for me.
So don't give up! You'll find a way. You sound determined enough to make it happen for sure!!
ps...at my heaviest I was 185...I got down to 150 on my own and now am at 140 and look BETTER then EVER at 40!View Thread
And welcome to the community!
You CAN do this, and you're smart to start losing before it becomes even more unmanageable. Make sure you stay hydrated, work out for a reasonable amount every day, and start with little changes. You'll be surprised at how easy it can be.View Thread
First rule of weight loss is portion control. This is the number one reason why gastric bypass surgery works so dramatically. If you want to lose weight, you must eat less.
Second Rule: Eat mostly fruits and vegetables. Most Americans don't do this. Humans are primarily meant to eat a plant based diet. Asian countries such as China, Japan and Korea eat twice as much plant based foods as Americans...
Third Rule: Walk. Start with 5 minutes, out, and 5 minutes, back. If that hurts, throttle back. When it stops hurting, throttle up. I'm up to 40 minutes, out, and 40 minutes, back.
I haven't experienced pain of any kind in over 4 years, now.
Fourth Rule: I sleep 6 hours every night. I sleep at the same time at night and wake up, without a clock, the same time each morning. It is next to impossible to lose weight without proper, uninterrupted sleep. It's not so much the hours are critical. It's the "uninterrupted" part that is critical. Get tired; Go to sleep.
I call this the "Darwin" method of weight loss because
this is what all animals do in nature. Wild animals don't have weight problems. Animals don't need dieticians, therapists, trainers, physicians, medications or surgery.
They live life, simple, and they repeat with precision.
Consider this...Science have been studying weight loss for over 100 years. The result: Our society has become more unhealthy.
The only reasonable conclusion is foods that are made/manufactured are not providing proper nutrition and actually causing us to eat more...It is the American diet that is the cause of insulin resistance and metabolic dysfunction. Obesity, type 2 diabetes, heart disease, hyertension...all primary causes of premature death in America.
It's just that simple...View Thread
I desperately want to lose weight. I eat right and attempt to exercise, however the more I exercise the more intense my back pain gets. It then takes several days for the back pain to ease. Any suggestions as to what I can do? I have seen doctors; have had several back injections and RFA with relief for only a couple of months at best. I am so tired of fighting this weight and back pain.

Love all of those things though, except the cleaning.

I challenge everyone on the board to get outside and walk today. Then, come to the board and tell us what you saw while you were out in the fresh air.
(And, if you're counting your steps, how many did you log?)

I've found that after taking the healthy initiative and going for a walk, the last thing I want to do it weigh down my stomach with comfort foods.
Best of luck!View Thread
Yesterday I was working on an elliptical, two women came and used the machines next to me and they talked the whole time. I found that so annoying even though I had my earpiece on to watch TV, I could still hear them talking.
Occasionally, I see some people working out with their trainers and they end up talking more than working out as well.
Like you said, I need to focus on what I am doing and I don't like distraction.
I can socialize, but it has to be in the locker room, or the juice bar, or waiting for the class to start, not on the floor.View Thread

Things I can improve upon food wise that I've done "wrong" in the past week:
-stay away from coffee shop hot chocolate, my homemade hc (1 tbs pure cocoa powder 1 tbs pure honey) is much better/better for me
-egg whites in the morning stave off hunger throughout the morning. 1 egg 3 egg whites with no salt and some italian seasoning does the trick.
-switch up the grain. I had a lot of rice last week. I need to cook a batch of millet or quinoa for this weeks grain.
-can't do salads twice a day, every day. it gets old. some cooked veggies or purred soup with grain would be good
-Also, I need more meat. I haven't had anything but tuna or chicken and tuna for a while, and I don't like it.
-pop corn is a good snack at night (1/4 cup kernels 1tbs olive oil)
-lastly, that milkshake on Saturday made me not feel deprived. it was like I cheated and it kept me on track for the rest of the week.
Plan for next week (Thurs-Weds)
-Run same trail: Thurs, Friday, Saturday, Weds
-Will be traveling Sat-Mon: Hopefully the hotel will have a gym and I can get in at least one days work out, maybe two
-Keep up the monitored eating. Be aware and restrict sugar intake. If I don't eat it, I don't want it.
-Weigh in goal: Be in the 180s! (Hopefully, 188ish)View Thread

I hope you can continue on the path of getting smaller.
Juicing wouldn't work for me, because I like to eat my food, not drink it, and besides, I have to cook for my husband, so not eating would be near impossible.
Maybe just stick to a certain eating pattern based on healthy food and specific times, at a certain calorie level?
E.g. if you eat 1 800 calories spread throughout the day - say 3 meals and 2 snacks (healthy food of course) , the weight should drop off.
It's excellent that you exercise so regularly - keep it up, and good luck.View Thread
If you go to the eating disorder boards, there's a link at the bottom for this board. So like, food's already an issue, here's a diet board...? Doesn't really make sense.View Thread
