Our area of concern remains to be school. Medicated or natural, this seems to be a common area of problems for many of us.
Through this forum, I discovered brain training ideas. I know my son will benefit from this, but finding the right one is important.
I wanted to ask for opinions on the subject, and appreciate any and all comments in favor of, or cautions. They can be expensive.
Recently had an eval done, at a Brain Training facility, and for 8 months, 4 times a week, it would be about $11,000.00! Needless to say, that is FAR from our financial means.
I have run across a few sites:
Braintraining101.com
Brainbuilder.com
Brainskills.com
Lumosity.com
Attengo.com
goofybrains.com
any feedback?View Thread

Diet can play a huge part. Higher in protein, less sugar (obviously), we cut artificial food colors out, and would never stop this approach. Some it helps, and it takes time. After 2-3 months we realized the difference, especially if he had anything with artificial color.
Amino acid supplements. Neu'becalm - LOVE it. I take it too. Research and see what you think. adhdrelief.com.
We give our 10 yr old ADHD son a good fish oil. Nordic Naturals makes a good, Omega 3-6-9. Quality can matter.
Multi vitamins.
another good resource is 3 steps to conquering ADD/ADHD. You'll have to google it. Great advice on diet and vitamins. This will also lead you to Neu'becalm products.
ADD-care is another we use.View Thread

Here's a few things we do that are natural, that have made a huge difference for him, and us!
Healthy diet - that's a given. Less starchy carbs, higher in protein, and the obvious good fruits and veggies.
NO artificial colors, and try for natural in general.
Neu-becalm - Good stuff. adhdrelief.com.
Fish oil - omega 3-6-9
multi vitamins
ADD-Care supplement. add-care.com.
I always try for the empathy and understanding response first. Difficult in the middle of an upset. Getting angry and upset myself usually makes it worse.
Help him recognize his behavior, after the issue. Have a plan for changing direction.
Idk, just thoughts.
Use caution before a diagnosis. Lots of labels, and once they are, there is usually an added "target" on them. Try some dietary and supplement treatments and see if that makes a difference. Research the supplements and see what you think.View Thread

- B vitamins - B6/B5 bananas, lemons, melons, spinach, squash, okra, cauliflower, eggs, peanuts, soy beans, muchrooms, etc.
- Calcium - nuts again, lentils, breads, yogurt, milks etc.
- 5-HTP (tryptophan) - Amino acids, like flax, milk, eggs,
- Zinc - seafood, shelfish, peanut butter, asparagus, spanach, good veggies again, and whole grain cereals,
I looked up each Nutrient and made a list of foods rich in each of the vitamins/mineral
Fish Oil, and those new V8 juice drinks are a good source. I am continuing to do all I can dietary wise, but recently put my son on Adderall too. I don't know how I feel about it, but with school starting I felt we should try. My son has not had the best school experiences and is behind in academics. Language, all aspects including speech.
He is hypersensitive to his surroundings and highly intuitive. Still reacts before thinking about what he is saying and doing, but we talk about it all the time, and try to find ways to "self control".
Its been tough at times.
All the info, and other experiences are helpful to read about. Thanks for sharing what has worked and what did not.
I also just ordered us a poster of Famous Americans with ADHD, we'll frame it and put it up in our son's room. Maybe we should get one for his classroom too. Awareness = Understanding. I worry there will be someone who teases him because of it though.View Thread

Has anyone else had a difficult time with this. School starts soon, so there won't be as many opportunities to play outside, but I still worry how this effects him. And me. Ideas, or comments?View Thread
