The good thing though is, I consider your son lucky that this happened now (when he's still only a year old), though most kids have food allergies (peanuts, shellfish, etc.) & they at least have a chance to possibly outgrow the food allergies (if they're lucky).

As for me, I unfortunately was never that lucky.
All my food allergies (peanuts, shellfish, etc.) all bombarded me at once (in January 2009). I never had any food allergies while growing up (& I'm now 29 years old). As a result, I stay away from peanuts, tree nuts, shellfish, & even most fish (when possible). 
As for very small amounts & him building up a tolerance to it, yes I think there is a chance, but would you really want to put your child's life at risk (if he should have a severe reaction)? I ask you that from a personal standpoint as a food allergy sufferer.

Here's an article that I found (on Cephalexin) for you to read, if you are allergic to any of the antibiotics listed in the article, then I'd say DON'T take it.

But otherwise, myself being a person that takes it (before my dental work) & having a Penicillin allergy, I have no problems with it, so I'd say take it (assuming you don't find yourself allergic to any of the antibiotics mentioned in the above article)

I don't know if this will help, but it's an article on Alcohol Allergies & Intolerances. Might your hubby have some sort of Wheat or Gluten allergy that you don't know of? The article covers Wheat Allergies, Sulfite Allergies, & Histamine Intolerance, Hope it helps
