I have been getting chronic hives for the past 3 years. I've seen many specialists, dermatologists, allergists, and other doctors and so far no treatment has worked. I've tried every single over-the-counter type of allergy medication and antihistamine, I've tried epi-pens at home, as well as remedies like the Xolair shot, Methotrexate, and other hard-core medications and NOTHING works. It's very debilitating and makes it hard to live through day-to-day activities. The ONLY thing that keeps the hives at bay is Prednisone, but I can't take it forever! It's killing my kidneys! I'm so tired of being a slave to this disorder with many visits to the ER because my whole body tries to shut itself down during my outbreak.
It lasts from October to April EVERY year! I just want answers and a solution so I can go back to living my life instead of hiding away in my bedroom because of all these immunosuppressants! There doesn't seem to be any specific trigger except that it starts up every October and ends around mid April and is constant. There are no breaks once the breakouts start until at least April. I've spent so many months laid up in bed and sick as a dog because of being on the prednisone and my son bringing home some illness from school, but I can't take this anymore! This isn't living, it's living the life of a hermit! I'm a photographer, I want to be out in the world taking photos, not laid up in bed trying not to scratch all of my skin off!
Not only do my hives itch like hell, but they BURN and STING! It feels as if someone threw me into a giant pool of jellyfish that are stinging me hundreds of thousands of times... My outbreaks have covered as much as 85% of my body at one time.
Does this happen to anyone else? And if so, how are you surviving through this without going utterly INSANE?!View Thread
