It's still early enough in April to do a check-in. Spring is slow to arrive in Northern CA but we're grateful for the rain last week. Now if the wind would only slow down...
Have a Happy Easter and a Happy Passover,

To those that do not celebrate, then just a very Happy Sunday to you!

Currently 39 degrees in WNY with rain. My one word comment for weather like this: OUCH!!
Really bothers my chronic pain from arthritis and serious spine problems. We moved my dad this past Thursday into his new assisted living facility. He is thrilled. This one offers more service for a lower fee, so it seems ideal. I believe I have finally found the right place for my dad.
Have a blessed and super Sunday, friends.

In the past year or so I have noticed the following:
-She gets confused more often. She has a hard time comprehending/processing what I am saying
-She has been more clumsy and drops and spills things a lot
-She has been more irritable
-She gets lost more easily and has a hard time finding things in her own house
-Sometimes she forgets my name or my brother's name
-She has been more disorganized
-She has forgotten to go to doctor's appointments sometimes
-Her personal hygiene is declining. she's not showering and brushing her teeth as often
-She has gone out in public wearing her pajamas and forgets to change her clothes before going out.
It sounds like Alzheimer's to me. I am just concerned because I thought this just happens to people over 70. But, I was looking up some stuff about it on the internet and found that early onset Alzheimer's can occur in adults under 65. But, I still think that 55 is too young to get it. I need your advice please.View Thread
He is 58, is he too young for Alzheimer's ?
He is extremely forgetful, very irritable, has lost over 20 lbs in less than a year (he was already thin),confused about simple tasks, showers a lot less frequent, loss of sex drive, gets mad and frustrated very easily, has a lot of accidents, it's difficult to explain things to him and have him comprehend, driving a car is difficult for him without him running into something. After reading some of the symptoms of Alzheimer's , I think I should be concerned but I thought he was too young for it.
Last week he was terminated from his job. They gave him no reason other than it's a business decision. He had over $60,000.00 of medical expenses last year because of migraines, I think his employer knew something was not right with him. He could not get all his work completed in a 40 hour work week and was working approximately 70 hours a week. He was salaried so they used and abused him for about 7 months straight. That is when I started noticing extreme differences in his behavior.
My questions are; should we have him tested for Alzheimer's and if so, what kind of doctor do we see? What kind of tests will they do?
I look forward to receiving a reply. I am very concerned. Thank youView Thread

I found the emblem, but it seems no one is making door/window stickers. I talked to the police chief in our small town and asked him if he knew what the emblem looked like. He said he didn't. I talked to him about the police and firefighters should know what the emblem looked like, so they could identify the problem.
He said for me to bring it to him and he will see that it gets distributed.
Now that's been over a year. I've let it slide.
Any suggestions? Do you know if these are already available? It seems that it would be good to have it on jewelry also.

Today is the first day of spring. Our weather in WNY has been the best every recorded for March. Very thankful for that. I saw on the news that somewhere in Arizona got two feet of snow over the weekend. The weather has been unusual everywhere lately.
Hope you are all doing OK.
Have a blessed and terrific Tuesday, friends.

I'm going to try corned beef, cabbage, potatoes and carrots baked in the oven later today. I usually do the traditional stove-top boiling method but baking is easier for me. I've read some recipes on the internet and it seems like it should work. Just have to add some water - about 2 cups or so - and that should do it.
Have a blessed and super Saturday, folks!

"Good Choice: Blueberry JuiceSubstances in blueberries may help keep the brain healthy. In a small study, researchers looked at the effect of blueberry juice on memory in adults in their seventies who had age-related memory decline. Those who drank 2 1/2 cups of blueberry juice for 12 weeks had significant improvement on learning and memory tests compared to those who drank a non-juice beverage. So choose blueberry juice to boost brain health."
I had not heard this before -- pretty interesting.

It's that time again for a check-in. Spring begins March 19th, not the 20th, because of Leap Year. How do you feel about the start of Spring? Any reflections?
One of the ways to cope with the stress of A;lzheimer's is to write how you are doing.
So, let us know,

My dad is doing quite well. I have been researching other assisted living facilities in our area because he is running out of excess funds. The fees in his current place far exceed his monthly pension income. The proceeds from the sale of the mobile home will only allow him to stay where he is for about another year. My wife and I visited a few places and found one that will accept him. I called his current place this morning to tell them about the move, and they are now trying to get the fees there lower than his monthly income. I would rather not move him, although he understands and is agreeable to a move, so keeping him where he is at less cost would be ideal.
I've been trying to at least keep up with reading posts in this community but that has also been challenging. Hopefully things will settle soon and I can be more active here again.
Have a blessed and thankful Thursday, folks.

Over the past several months, it seems that I have a conversation with my husband, and then completely forget it happened. A couple of days later I try to tell him the same story, and he will tell me that we already talked about it. I never remember talking about it previously.
The other day, I apparently called my sister, talked on the phone with her, and made plans for the weekend. The weekend came and she called me to see where I was. I didn't even remember talking to her.
I also am having a hard time remembering past events, I keep getting my husband mixed up with my ex, whether it's places we visited together, or who his extended family are, or even when everyone's birthdays are. I used to always remember dates.
And at work I am having a hard time memorizing numbers. In order to get a new promotion, I am supposed to learn the weights of about 15 of our items, but I have been studying for a year now and can not remember more than 5 of the weights.
I am only 23 (which I also forget sometimes) and all of this deeply concerns me. I read online that stress or lack of sleep can cause these problems, but I have very little stress, and I sleep at least 10 hours a night.
Is it some form of Alzheimer's? Is this something I can fix?View Thread
It appears that none of the Alzheimer's prescribed drugs are really effective short-term or long-term in stopping the progress of Alzheimers. I have several elderly relatives (7) who have Alzheimers and none of them have had positive outcomes being on the drugs used to treat Alzheimers. In addition, several of my friends whose parents have Alzheimers are experiencing the same thing I am.
So, I decided to look at alternative, natural treatments and one of them could be protandim. Please give me your feedback. Thank you.View Thread
