As with this whole year, June is just rushing past.
Kathy, I am glad to see your husband doing well.
My dad is doing very well in the VA nursing home. He definitely needs this level of care now and they are providing excellent care for him. This past Monday was his 83rd birthday. I reserved a small lounge room in his wing and my wife and I took him pizza and an ice cream cake. We had birthday hats and noise makers and celebrated. He was thrilled.
Alzheimer's has affected a large part of our family. This past February we lost my wife's dad to a combination of CHF (congestive heart failure) and Dementia. My dad is in a nursing home with moderate Alzheimer's.
Carol has given excellent advice as usual. Hospice offered grief counseling to my mother-in-law and was wonderful when Dad passed.
I pray for peace and comfort for your family.View Thread
I am sorry you are experiencing this. There are definitely other medications that could help better with the aggressive tendencies. His family needs to take him to his doctor asap for evaluation and explain what is happening.
My 82-year-old dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in January 2011. He fell out of bed and was taken to the ER. When they did the brain scan and found a concussion they also found signs of Dementia, later pinpointed to Alzheimer's. He is now in a nursing home at about moderate stage.
IMHO, your husband needs to do all he can to convince his mother that she needs to see a doctor. The symptoms you describe can be caused by a number of conditions, including possible history of stroke. It certainly could be a form of dementia as well. Only a doctor can accurately diagnose and then treat whatever condition is causing her symptoms.

My dad was diagnosed with Alzheimer's in January 2011. He did well in different assisted living facilities until this January 2013. He digressed rather quickly to the point where he was beyond what the assisted living facility was licensed to handle. I decided to have him tested in March and he scored as needing skilled nursing. Last Thursday, 5/2/2013, we moved him to a federal VA nursing home in our state. He handled the move rather well and is doing fine. They are taking excellent care of him and giving him all he needs.
