Have been taking St. John's Wort for about 3 years. It has helped a lot most of the time. Lately, I'm taking it on and off. In the past, I have not tolerated side effects from SSRIs. When I got some Lexapro, the literature said to be off Saint John's Wort for 14 days before taking Lexapro. This has been difficult because I get so moody or worried without it. I plan on taking a tiny dose. I'm taking it for OCD. So I was wondering if anyone would support me in this endeavor. People have told me that an SSRI may make a really positive difference.
I was also wondering if I could just wait maybe about 5 days.
Thanks for any thougths.View Thread

Dr. Farrell,
Thank you for your reply.
I may not have been clear when I typed this. I definitely do not plan to take St. John's Wort with an SSRI. What I was saying is that it will be difficult to wait 2 weeks without the St. John's Wort before taking the SSRI. Regardless of how bad some people think Saint John's Wort is, I found it to be very helpful.View Thread

OCD, natural vs prescription

I am really into vitamins and natural cures because to me they have a lot less side effects and bring about healing. I've gotten a lot of help from St. John's Wort and a really good multi that includes a lot of greens. However, I still deal with OCD. I don't really feel consciously worried, but I have trouble with routine stuff like putting up clothes or doing dishes because...it gets on my nerves. Anybody understand? Anyway, I'm wondering if I'm going to just have to try a drug that treat OCD. But, I probably won't be able to stand the side effects. Anybody know of an good support groups in the Birmingham, Alabama area or have any thoughts?
I really am thankful for the progress that I have made, and I give thanks to God for that.View Thread

St. John's Wort or 5-HTP?

A doctor who practices traditional and alternative approaches prescribed her line of St. John's Wort for anxiety, depression, and to see if it would help IBS and muscle aches. It mostly helped by calming. Many people I mention it to ask if I've tried 5-HTP. So, now I'm considering switching to that. Part of it is that the SJW makes me kind of drowsy and out of it, fuzzy thinking such that sometimes I can't think of the right word to say. Also, I want something (5-HTP or SJW) that will help OCD. Any thoughts?View Thread

Thanks for this reply. I also avoid flying and haven't in 19 years. I really need to travel to a certain place, and don't want to drive that far alone. None of the counselors or psycologist I have been to have offered this type of therapy. Where could I find this? I live in Birmingham, Alabama. Thanks.View Thread
