Also, is it possible to have a low peak flow meter reading (mine was around 300 and I'm 23 yr old male), but feel just fine with no symptoms of asthma? That's how I've been for the last 7 years.View Thread
For those of you who have had bronchitis, what meds did they put you on? The Dr. had me take three days worth of an antibiotics, 5 days of steroids and told me to take over the counter musinex. Is this enough to wipe out Bronchitis? Also, should I be resting in bed? I got absolutely no instructions as to what I was supposed to do, besides taking some meds.
Any help would be appreciated.

What do you all think??View Thread
I've visited my doctor repeatedly and have completed lung capacity and other tests and have been prescribed many medications including Serevent, Singulair, Symbicort, Pulmicort and Asmanex (at least those are the ones I can remember) along with emergency inhalers like Salbutamal. But nothing seems to work. I've also tried other preventative actions including extended warm-ups, inhaling steam, breathing through my nose (as much as I can), etc.
Anything else, I could be missing? Sports are a large part of my active life and I would hate to have to give it up to what is commonly referred to as a "treatable ailment". ThanksView Thread
I did go to the doctor Sunday at Patient First and the doctor said I had a really bad cold with Bronchitis.
There is no Bronchitis Message Board here on WebMD.

Anyways, the past couple days since I have felt a little tight and congested in the chest. I don't know if this is related to the exercise or perhaps a cold brewing? I don't have any other cold symptoms, no runny nose, coughing, sneezing, or high temperature. I feel fine, actually, except for my chest.
My big question I suppose is is the chest tightness/congestion normal for someone with exercise induced asthma? Thanks.View Thread

I have taken it upon myself to measure my O2 saturation the first thing when waking up, and have found that I might be desaturating during my sleep. I have been well below 95 percent for the past couple of mornings, but am not sure if I am getting an accurate reading. My saturation goes up to 99 percent within several minutes of being awake, but it is during sleep that I am a little concerned about. Is minimal desaturation during sleep rather common among asthmatics? I know it can be for those with COPD, but I have not been diagnosed with irreversible COPD.View Thread
My 12 yo has been an asthmatic since age 2. We do a lot of preventative meds and started allergy shots at age 7 (family decision). He was the bubble boy back then. He is so much better now. He has been on shots for 5 years, with singulair, claritin, sudafed daily along with variety of nasal sprays. He got sick in Nov, but with a short dose of steroids and antibiotics - seems to have gotten better. He can play outside, we have an outdoor dog, but we still homeschool and keep to ourselves!
We don't have indoor pets, clean alot, try to dust and decrease the clutter. Bed covers, pillow covers, etc. He does not have food allergies - just picky. He is allergic to many airborne things. We don't go out much and can't stay at friends houses who have pets. Perfume, smoke, etc all seem to bother us. I had severe asthma when I was pregnant with both kids, and seem to have certain triggers. I too, take lots of meds, but it is pretty controlled until I get sick.
The steroids are a real problem with kids and adults (anger, no self control, etc.) I have been on steroids and had kids on steroids. : )
THanks for sharing. Hope that the kids outgrow the asthma!View Thread

I'm curious to know if the above can be side effects of the medication?
Any help on this matter will be greatly appreciated!

I've been moderate to severe persistent asthma for 12 years. For the first 11 years, I thought if I just got rid of enough aggravating factors then the asthma would behave itself and I could go back to life as normal before it got bad. Though my efforts led to a 75% reduction in pred use, still it's pretty high and I have to stay indoors a lot, and I wear a mask unless I'm at work, etc. It just seems that I've done all I know, but I just can't get it any better. For instance, 2 months ago my current exacerbation started due to controlled burns the forest service was doing, and I'm not still not back to normal though I have done all I know to do.
How does a person go from hoping for a better future to accepting that this is how it will always be?
I truly believe that when you have an accurate understanding of reality, you make better decisions. The reality I currently see is one in which I'm behind financially, I have a disease with no cure, mostly others don't understand though they may care for me, I can't trust that others will be there for me in the future due to their lack of understanding of the disease, I take higher levels than recommended of pred leaving me at risk for multiple diseases in the future, I may not always be able to continue in my present occupation and may suffer loss of income in the future, so I have to be financially conservative and save and take care of myself the best I can now. I see a reality in which having a social network will always be hard because of wearing a mask or if I don't wear one then the asthma gets out of control and I at some point have an attack in front of others which scares them off, or I just stay at home all the time. So, I have to learn to be by myself.
I think you do what you can, and if you can't do anything about it, then you accept it....but I don't understand how to accept it or be at peace with it. I don't wish to always be a complainer, and I want to be able to spend energy only on things I can do something about. How does a person be a peace with a reality they don't like?
Anyway, compllicated question, but if any of you have stories of if and how you've managed it, I'm all ears.View Thread
I don't know if should go in to my doctor my peak flows are in my low yellow and red zones.right now it seems like the nebs are working. I know my PCP is very relucant to put me on Pred. because I have Avascular Necrois in my hips from being on so much Pred in the past. Neither my PCP or my Pulmo will give me an action plan even though I have my PCP every time I have problems with my asthma and I ask my Pulmo every time I see him which is every 6 months. I don't know why they won't give me an action plan because all I do now is guess as to what to do, when to go see my doc, when to go in to the ER etc.
I know I'm complaing a little but I need to get this off my chest and it always helps to talk to others who understand what I'm going through.
Thanks,

Ive been fighting a mystery ailment/condition for over two months now and I'm not sure how to proceed. It started out as a mild tickling/burning in the chest with occasional tightness to a feeling of severe burning/aching with no tightness, no coughing, and very little mucous production. two sets of chest xrays shows everything clear. I have been prescribed flovent hfa at 88/twice a day. I started this 9 days ago and it definitely made the more severe symptoms vanish, but I still wake up most days with an ache and feeling like im getting over a bad cold. a few days ive felt fine, other days i feel not well at all, and im just kind of bouncing back and forth with this now, not getting better but not getting worse. Due to my family's insistence I also went to a different doctor that they recommended, and she had prescribed me a prednisone burst with no flovent, however I have severe anxiety and the idea of taking something that could make me jittery is simply a last resort for me. My question for everyone is, does this sound at all like it could be asthma related, should I stop the flovent and take the pred burst, or should i just keep taking flovent and see if it gets better soon?
Thank you for any insight anyone may have.View Thread
to denver to the Jewish national reg. hospital (?) i was wondering if anybody else has been there, i tried the cleveland clinic down in ft lauderdale, but that was a waste of time. Still can't figure out what is causing all the problems. I was at doc office the other day and had to to all the treatments and steroids, went to leave and these people came up behind me with thier dogs, i went right back into an attack. never new i was allergic to dogs. They were service dogs, so what can i say, also back on prednisone , can't seem to get off it , everytime i do
i end up back in hospital. anyway hope everybody gets better.
