I was reading on another part of Webmd and found out that a runny nose or stuffy or sniffing is a common problem that is related to asthma because it is caused by inflammation of the airways also. The information below I pasted from the "Is your asthma under control?" a quiz I did from the asthma homepage on WebMd.
Nasal and Sinus Problems
A chronic runny or stuffy nose (rhinitis) and sinus inflammation (sinusitis) are very common conditions seen in people with asthma. In fact, asthma, rhinitis, and sinusitis are considered to be interrelated parts of the same disease. This is because all three involve inflammation of the lining of your airways and are often triggered by the same things.
Those who have a history of rhinitis and sinusitis often have more severe asthma symptoms, more asthma attacks, and worse asthma control than those who do not suffer from these conditions. Therefore, managing your rhinitis or sinusitis is important in order to keep your asthma in control.
Treatment for rhinitis and sinusitis depend on the cause but may include medications to control inflammation (such as nasal corticosteroids sprays or oral corticosteroids), medications to calm allergic reactions (such as antihistamines), and medications to fight infection (such as antibiotics). If your runny or stuffy nose is caused by allergies then treatment may also include avoiding triggers, and in some cases, getting allergy shots. You should see your health care provider to discuss the treatment that is right for you.
I hope this helps both of you.

I have little red bumps on my arms that get itchy when I shower and I found that if I put some lotion on after the shower it stops the itching. The best lotion I found that works is Johnson and Johnson 24 hour body lotion. It's hypoallergenic and has no scent so I don't react to it in any way. You can find it in the baby care aisle at the store. If I don't use the lotion after taking a hot shower I will itch for several hours afterward but if I put it on before dressing I have no problems taking nice hot showers. You might try this and see if it helps you. I hope this helps.

I have had the same problem. I use a nebulizer only when I'm having asthma attacks. I have also notice that I can feel post-nasal drip. Lately I have had some chest tightness and decress in my peak flows. The constant sniffing has been going on since Oct. and I don't know why or how to treat it. When I blow my nose only clear stuff comes out. I wish I knew what to do.
Any advice would be welcomed.
Thanks,

I already use a spacer and still have the symptoms. I can't use Asmacort or Servent because they make my asthma worse. I haven't figured out what to try. Sonya, I think I might be like you a little because I felt better at the beginning of using the Sybicort but then I got worse.
If you any other advice it is welcomed.

I take Symbicort 2 puffs twice a day and I have notice that I have been feeling tighter in the chest. I was wondering if anyone else was having the same problem? I also have been feeling more short of breath while using the inhaler. I don't know if I should keep using it for a while longer and see if it goes away or call my pulmo right away and see what he says. I also just found out that I have AVN (Avascular Necorsis) in both hips so my primary who treats me for my asthma most of the time said we have to limit the use of pred. so I need to good controller med.
Any advice would be welcome.

I have the same thing going on with the phlem and post nasal drip but mine is not as severe as yours sounds. What meds do you take for your allergies and your acid reflux? I take generic Zertec and Singular for my allergies and I take Omeprazole for my acid reflux and these seem to work well. Have you been tested for influenza? Some of your symptoms sound like the flu.
I hope this helps some

I understand what you are feeling. I was on a 50mg burst of Pred. for 5 days and even that through me for a loop because I have never done a burst I have always been on a taper. I just found out that I have AVN (Avascular Necrosis) of my right hip from being on Pred. so my dr. said we have to try and not put me on it as much. So I don't know what that means for the future.
If any of you guys have AVN and are in the same situation and have some advice I would like to hear what is happening with you guys.
I hope you feel better soon Mattie
