Thanks Sonya. Is Zyrtec a prescribed med? or OTC? I am taking Singular right now and a nose spray. Nothing seems to help. I have talked to all my Dr.s about the post nasal drip and I have told them that it is half of my problem. I think if they could stop that, then my asthma wouldnt be as bad. But all the Dr.s that I have seen act like there isnt anything else they can put me on. Its really really frustrating.
Im supposed to see the Pulmonologist again in one month. But Im still having problems with asthma. I dont know what Im supposed to do for an entire month. I guess just suffer.
This is really starting to depress me again.View Thread
Cwille, so sorry you couldnt try the shots. Its a shame that we cant get the meds that we need just because of the cost. A crying shame. I may see an allergist as well. I have such terrible allergies, Im willing to try anything. Cant hurt to throw in a few more specialists on top of all the others I already have. lol, I see already see 5 specialists for other health issues, whats one more? View Thread
Judy, thanks so much for the information. I just knew the Dr. was wrong about exercise. I figured sitting around in bed had to be doing nothing good for my asthma. Of course I wont be doing any running, but I would very much like to take my dog for a walk. I used to take her every single day, but I havent been able to for a month. The last two days, my asthma has been doing so much better, so I may take her for a short walk tomorrow. Dont want to go too crazy and cause my lungs to get upset again.
When my daughter lived here, about 4 yrs ago, she would have her friends come over after school and we would all swim. We played Marco Polo. I believe that swimming with those kids and playing that game, really helped my asthma. At that time my asthma was well under control and I could hold my breath longer then any of those young kids. I would very much like to be like that again one day.
aaawwww sgb, you poor thing. I have acid reflux as well, but mine is pretty much kept under control. I do have some horrible allergies. I take Benadryl and a expectorant every 4 hours. Post nasal drip is horrible and I constantly have a runny nose. Put all of that together and it spells asthma probs. lol.
How long have you been getting the Xolair injections? I hope you can find some help real soon.View Thread
Hello everyone, I saw my Pulmonologist today, for the first time and he listened to my lungs and did all the other things any other Dr. would do. He sat back and said "you have extensive asthma". Okay Dokay Dr. *shrug*. He spent about 15 mins with me, talking 50 mph, I almost had to give him a ticket for speeding. I asked him if he thought I should go for walks and try to strengthen my lungs, but he said "no,lungs dont work that way." Another *shrug*. His plan of action is to give me Xolair shots for asthma. I guess its pretty new treatment. A third *shrug*. So, is there anyone here who has had Xolair shots before? Any info. would be wonderful.
Thank you. I hope you all are well and breathing easy. View Thread
Hello Amelia, Im surprised that my Dr.s havent said anything about Chronic Bronchitis. Maybe I will do some research on it. Ive had asthma all my life and every year it just gets worse and worse.
Lately I have noticed that my allergies are bothering me a lot. I dont sneeze, but i do get the constant runny nose, post nasal drip and the itchy throat. I have also noticed that normal things that I used to be able to eat before, are now causing me the itchy throat, swollen throat, painful throat and breathing problems. Today i made a salad and put Ranch dressing on it. I have never had problems with it before, but right now I feel just horrible. Im surprised that my throat feels swollen. Ive taken a Benadryl but still feel just horrible. I have no idea whats going on with me.
Thank you for replying, I really appreciate it. Have a good evening.View Thread
Hello everyone, I have been having asthma problems, post nasal drip and thick phlem in my lungs for over 3 weeks now. Been to my Dr.s three times, been put on a number of medications, went to Urgent Care and Im still having problems. Right now I notice that the phlem seems to be thick, hard to cough up, causes breathing difficulties. No matter how many breathing treatments I do, how many allergy meds, expectorants and all the other tricks that I know of, I still cant breath or cough up the phlem. Last night I couldnt lay down because I couldnt breath. Today I am beyond exhaustion.
Dr. did an EKG today, turned out fine, she did a blood test for Valley Fever, will get the results in a few days, and also has ordered me a CAT scan. This Friday I have an apt. with a Pulmonologist.
Ive just been suffering for so long now and even though my apt. with the Pulmonologist is only 4 days away, thats 4 more days of Hell I have to go through.
Could there be other diseases that can cause problems with asthma or can imitate asthma?
I do have allergies and the Dr.s have me on meds for that. I do have acid reflex, but Im on medication for that also. *shrug*
Hello Chickie, once I get this asthma to calm down, I can start going for walks again. In the summer we swim in our pool.
The cold weather seems to cause me more problems also.
The info. about the hormones is very interesting. I have never heard of that before. Its hard to tell when my hormones are messed up because I had an ablation done to stop my periods. I also have Bipolar, so any time Im having emotional probs its hard to tell if its the Bipolar, hormones, pms, lol, Im a wreck.
I have a question. Do you ever notice that when you start laughing really hard, that it too can cause breathing difficulties?
Hello Debbie, I do know some of my triggers. Exertion (even something as simple as walking can trigger it sometimes,), dust (when living in Az., there is far too much of it), when there are clouds out, smog, grass, sometimes going from a sitting position to a lying position or vise versa, post nasal drip and cleaning chemicals and sometimes my Hydrocodone can cause breathing problems. Also I do have acid reflux but its controlled with meds.
A daily diary is a very good idea. I will have to start doing that and hopefully find out what else is causing this.
Also, I had no idea your hormones could cause problems. Im 46 yrs old and Im sure my hormones are going crazy right now.
