Hi Cutie, I am yet another mom of a child with depression and Aspergers - can can TOTALLY relate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My daughter is 14 and extremely stressed about starting High School - so stressed that she acted out behaviorally (hitting, screaming, yelling) and it landed her in the hospital *sigh*
School is a HUGE trigger and I truly hope you have a good team to work with at the Middle school? Is your son in a special class? Do you have an upcoming IEP meeting? If not, I'd definitely call one to order.
I also relate to the "doing-it-on-your-own" - my husband has been more of a hindrance than support and this causes another set of problems.
My thoughts would be: #1 - get an appointment with the Psychiatrist ASAP and discuss your son's spike in anxiety and the possibility of changing/adjusting medication. # 2 - Get an IEP scheduled now, before school starts to get additional supports in place. # 3 - Bump up his therapy appointments to 2 times a week. # 4 - With the therapist, work out a transition plan back to school. # 5 - Get some support / help for YOU!
I hope this helps a bit? I understand the challenges you face and empathize!!!! Take care of yourself, this is a long haul, with no easy (sadly) fix !!!
I totally can empathize with your situation, my 14-year old daughter struggles with a lot of the same as you describe.
While she has had "mood" issues her entire life, was just recently dx with Aspergers.
Not sure where you live (some States have better resources than others) - but, I am enrolling my daughter in an IOP. (Intensive Outpatient Program). We live in CA, so thankfully there are a lot of resources for children with ASD.
Has anyone mentioned this as an option for your son? Has your son tried a social group for those on the spectrum?
