you had posted a response on a subject of having fusion surgery entry thru the stomach.
you indicated you did not have insurance and were trying to obtain it. if you live in a big city you should have a university hospital where they offer either free treatments or reduced fees based on wages etc. my brother goes to one as he has no insurance and they have been treating his back very well.
hope this helps. please let us know what you find out~~View Thread

Can anybody help?View Thread
Approximately 8 months ago, I sustained a sudden impact injury while practicing soccer. Twisting to the right while sitting with hips tilted forwards produces a pain in my lower left back near my SI joint. The same pain can also be felt by lifting my left knee past 90 degrees (psoas?). The pain is still with me today however it has never been extremely painful, more of a dull ache.
More recently I have noticed that my left back muscle is visibly inflamed and rises out further than my right back muscle. Also, the vertebrae of my thoracic spine produces very sharp pain when pressed on by my fingertips. This pain can also be reproduced by bending over at the waist and letting the back round. The spine pain is more recent, maybe a month, and it worries me, however my physio says I should not be alarmed.
Other information about me: I have very tight hip flexors (years of sitting at a computer) but I have been stretching them often. When I attempt to squat deep or deep lunge I feel pain in my hip flexors. I should add that none of my symptoms really prevent me from going about my day or even from doing Insanity (currently in my second month of interval training).
My physio knows all the same information that I have just described, all I am really looking for here is a second opinion and whether or not I should halt physical activity.
Back pain is mysterious to me, regardless of how much I research and it seems it is also mysterious to many others who experience very specific symptoms without any relief.
TL;DR: Looking for a second opinion on very specific back pain.View Thread
It has caused me to loose almost any strength endurance in my right arm. Simple tasks like carrying shopping ,lifting items into cupboards have become very painful and can only be sustained for short periods of time.
After using my right arm ,hours after the muscles in my right pectorals and right biceps will tighten up and need stretching out.
I have tried to get medical help over the past 3 years , but until October 2012 where I saw an Osteopath was it brought to my attention that it could be a trapped nerve. Until then I have had diagnosis from Doctors and other Osteopaths that it could be a simple muscle tear in my Bicep ,Tricep or Deltoid ,however after months of resting, ice-ing and compression I had no signs of improvement.
I had asked on numerous occasions for an MRI scan, however, told everytime I have too good movement in my arm and shoulder joints.
Since visiting the osteopath I have had serval deep tissue massages and adjustments made in my back and neck, but after several sessions I have seen no improvement.
After being told it may be a trapped nerve in my neck I have noticed that the right side of my neck is very tight when tilting head towards my left shoulder.
I have also starting stretching my neck daily , Starting sleeping with only 1 pillow at night , Taking magnesium supplements, done exercises to strengthen my back muscles to pull my shoulders back and improve posture but also seen no improvements.
I have subsequently this year had an X-ray on my neck ,but it showed no abnormalities and as a last resort have had around 6-9 sessions with both Normal and Mctinomey Chiropractors to try and solve the problem.
Unfortunately none of this appears to be hitting the route of the problem and recently I have even started to feel a similar sensation in my right leg, which I think may be due to my back compensating for my weak arm which is pulling muscles out of place and causing my hips to rotate.
So my whole right side is now almost redundant.
I was previously a keen sports person competing at both swimming and football(soccer) but both have had to stop completely now due to the pain or lack of endurance in my muscles.
Any help or tips would be gratefully received as this has now become a very depressing problem which is stopping me living my life normally.View Thread
Decided to set up a new id and say hello to everyone.
I am doing OK. My wife is having her third workmans compensation hearing tomorrow. The carrier insists she can work, but her doctor says she is 100% disabled (due to a back injury) and can only perform sedentary work. Her former company (they terminated her as of 2/23/2013) would not accommodate her documented restrictions and they have no sedentary work. The carrier (company's wc insurance company) did not send a lawyer to the past two hearing and the judge ruled in her favor. We will see what happens tomorrow. Her wc attorney also does SSD and they are applying for that for my wife as well. We need a reliable, steady source of income and we never know when the WC payments may end.
Hope you are all doing OK.

My disc (L5/S1) had ruptured and the majority of the disc's content had spilled into my spinal canal and was cutting off the nerves supplying the "saddle region." This meant numbness in my crotch, buttocks, inner thighs, and back of my legs.
I had emergency surgery, which was again a great success.
Here's the problem. I know that the nerve recovery can take quite some time. But now I'm paranoid. I feel tingling sensations in my inner thighs or back of my thighs from time to time and I'm not sure if this is due to my nerves 'waking back up' or if there is a recurrence in the Cauda Equina Syndrome.
Did more of my disc get squeezed out and is blocking nerves again? I guess my only way to know for sure is by getting an MRI done, but I was just wondering if there are people out there who have experience with Cauda Equina and can help me out?View Thread
Please let me know if you can read it and what were you able to see in my spine?
Thank youView Thread

I had been treating primarily by accupuncture and chiropractor (and pain meds when needed). A few weeks ago the accupunturist noticed that one leg was thinner than the other. I went to a pain md who found several signs of muscle loss including: can't stand on toes or heels, slight hammer toes, and measurable difference in calves and above ankles. He referred me to neurosurgeon who looked at an MRI I had done in December. The MRI showed a small herniated disc at L5-s1 and mild to moderate central canal stenosis, and scar tissue around nerve going down right leg. (I had failed laminectomy 19 years ago, but ultimately pain free for last 15 years from accup and exercise).
The pain doc thinks the nerve damage is due to the disc. The neuro surgeon does not thing so, and does not believe I am good candidate for surgery. Neither thinks the problem is the stenosis.
I am now in very significant pain whenever I walk more than very short distance or stand in one place for over two minutes.
Any ideas anyone?View Thread
Honestly I didnt realize all of the lower leg issues post surgery could be related to that thecal sac issue until about 3 weeks ago when my therapist made a face at the mention of the thecal sac. I questioned him and he was honset that yes this was probably a direct effect of the knicked thecal sac and the chances of perminent damage is high.
The last question I have is this feeling in my right side of my lower leg that feels like my nerve is being torn from my leg and the terrible charlie horse cramping in both legs. While I admit I am not sorry I had the back surgery as my pain level is much lower but I am worried that this damage is something I may have to learn to live with. No one really has said it may be but they will only say things like "its only been 3 months" and "it can take up to 8 months or a year to know what is perminent and what we will regain". Anyone else having this post surgical issues or am I just like my injury "not a textbook case".View Thread

I have had severe symptoms of sciatica for a week now. I have tried muscle relaxants, nerve medications, Anti inflammatory meds, heating pads, rest, and even a Tens Unit- NOTHING helps!!! The only relief I get is when I lay down but unfortunately I work at a job that requires me to sit. The pulsating pain in the leg is almost too much. I have stabbing pain in my lower back, right buttock and into my thigh. I feel like I'm losing my mind from the pain!!! Now I'm experiencing pain in the region of my right ovary. I have had endometriosis removed 2 yrs ago and many large cysts throughout the years. I am only 27 yrs old and can hardly walk upwards. Someone please help!!View Thread

Had the MRI done on 4/10/13 and just rec'd copy of written report - not a happy camper

Here are the findings:
L2-L3 - mild disc bulge
L3-L4 - mild disc bulge; central spinal canal is not significantly narrowed. there is no neuroforaminal stenosis. There is mild hypertrophy of the ligamentum flavum. (means degenerative condition of spine where the tendons holding one vertebra to another thicken decreasing the amount of room available for spinal cord and the nerves that come off it. treatment is either anti-inflammatory meds and/or surgery which can recur).
L4-L5 - there is broad-based disc bulging which has developed since previous MRI (11/2011). Hypertrophy of he ligamentum flavum has progressed significantly. Hypertrophic facet arthropathy has progressed. There is moderate to severe central spinal stenosis. the functional diameter of the canal is approx 5 or 6mm compared with 1 cm on previous study. Bulging disc material and facet osteophyte contributes to moderate narrowing of the left neural foramen. there appears to be a developing subchondral cyst in the left lateral and inferior endplate of L4. there is approx 13 degrees of levoscoliosis in the lumbar spine. 4mm anterolisthesis has developed at L4-L5.
so my Lumbar spine is really messed up - the problems with L4 point to only treatment available will be a fusion - hate to think about having it done.
Thoracic Spine - no changes since last MRI - hemangioma in T9 are same. There is unchanged minor facet arthropathy at T11-T12 with small osteophyte formation which does not advanced relative to previous exam.
So there it is - tomorrow I will call and make appointment to see my spine surgeon to go over everything. I will keep you all posted~~View Thread

Findings:
There is motion artifact.
From T11 to the cacrum was imaged. Vertebral height and alignment are maintained. A small hemangioma is identified within the L3 vertbral body, hyperintense in signal.
At L5/S1, there is disc desiccation with preservation of disc hight. There is a concentric disc bulge with posterior central annular fissure causing minimal thecal impression. No limiting central or foraminal stenosis is present.
The remaining intervertebral disc spaces are well-maintained. The conus terminates at T1 and is normal in signal and in caliber.
Impression:
1. Disc bulge with annular fissure at L5/S1.View Thread
