Thanks Dave for your response. I read your story and feel your pain. I asked my PC Dr. about muscle relaxers and he said he didn't think it would help my pain. I don't like to take any narcotics because all they do is make me feel like I'm out of my body...don't like that feeling.
I've tried to upload a picture and tell my story on Webmd and it won't let me. I click on my name and browse the pic's. and click upload but it won't upload it. Any suggestions? Also, I went to an Orthopedic Spine Surgeon yesterday to see if anything could be done for my back and leg pain. I already have rod implants from 5T to 3L. done 26 yrs ago for severe adult Scoliosis He said he couldn't give me any guarantees but he thought he could help get rid of some of the pain by tying onto the rods that are there now and going down to the pelvic area with more rods and screws. He said it would be a 4 to 6 hr. surgery and about 4 days in the hospital. I can tell you now I don't know what to do. I hate making decisions. Does anyone have any thoughts or recommendations on what they would do?
Hi Georgia, They gave me a shot in the place on my spine where I was complaining of the pain and it helped some but I was still having pain above or below where they did the injection. I have rod implants that was done 22 yrs ago and have developed some stenosis and DDD below the rods. I guess because of the rods they didn't want to do anything. It was my understanding they could only do things like go in through a small incision and laser off some of the bone that was pressing on a nerve. I saw a Orthopedic Dr. today and he said he could go in and tie onto the rods that are there now and go down with more rods and screws to the pelvic area and do some decompression where the stenosis has some nerves impinged. He said it would relieve some of my pain but he couldn't guarantee it would completely get rid of it. It's a tough decision to make.Right now I can't stand over 10 mins. nor walk any distance. The Sciatica is really painful. I have a lot to think about before I call him back. Wish you well.
Hello Georgia, I went to a minimally invasive facility two years ago. They give you an injection where your pain is and if that gives you relief then they go in and do the minimally invasive technique. My problems were more than they could fix and it's usually 2 levels at the most they will work on.
Hello melvind1, I have Harrington Rods from 5T to 3L. I had my surgery for adult scoliosis 20 yrs. ago. The only part of my rods I feel are the bursa that has formed around the top and bottom. I now have DDD and some nerve issues in my legs. I'm going for an appt. with ANOTHER Orthopedic surgeon on Tuesday to see if anything can be done for the sciatic or other nerves involved with this pain. I wish you luck in your endeavor to get rid of your pain.
