Yes I apologize to everyone that I messed up. I'm sure I'll hear lots of that. I have asked how to fix it and haven't heard back. So I can't help it sorry.
Yes I'll have to go back and search PubMed for the specific articles you have asked for but it is all over the PubMed or Medline peer reviewed articles state that SI joint tests are not specific or accurate and vary from clinician to clinician. There are several articles that state either in a retrospective study or in blinded studies that the SI joint block or steroid injection is the best most accurate way to determine if you have an SI joint problem, however that is not 100% or even 90 accurate either due to leakage. I agree with you that alot may be due to the ligaments in the area rather than hypermobilization (unless due to certain problems or pregancy). It isn't something I made up it is a concern I have because I'm trying to get diagnosed myself and don't know who to believe. There is also a book by Dr. Scott Fishman, pain doctor at UC Davis who states that contrary to popular believe the SI joint doesn't just go out of whack it is very stable especially in your 40's. The books is called the War on Pain. I have been diagnosed by two PT's with SI joint dysfunction and all the doctors say it is muskulo skeletal problem. So I dont know where to go next , 2/3 PT's injured me further and much worse than when I started so I'm not too happy.
thanks

There is controversy in all the literature regarding SI joint Dysfunction.
Most articles, state that the tests used to diagnose are not specific and not accurate and vary from clinician to clinician and that the only reliable way to tell is SI joint injection with a steroid.
See poll below. However, I would like if you believe in SI Joint Dysfunction and why? If you do what is it based given the inaccuracy of the tests? Also, would you diagnose it as SI joint if the person has no major accident such as a car accident, no pelvic dislocation, no arthritis and non-pregnant and is middle aged? What is the basis of your answer? There seems to be a schism among the PT group, plus chiropractors and DO's versus all other doctors including GP's , pain doctors, surgeons etc.
I appreciate your input

Hi dp1967.
Yes the pump was also leaking spinal fluid. Sorry about your headache. Have they given you any meds for the headache? I hpe you are feeling a tiny bit better? I forgot that my user name on here should be marieh9 (I'll try to remember as I'm mkh9 on another site). I have back pain and am not thinking straight either. Having spinal fluid leak is like getting a spinal tap. If you don't lay down afterwards for 24 hours straight on a flat surface (bed with no pillow) then you get this terrible headache. I hope you had it removed and be sure to get on Fiorcet replacement like something as I would assume you will go through withdrawal. The doctor told my sister in law that she wouldn't go through withdrawal since it goes straight into the spinal column but it wasn't true. So, keep that in mind. I hope you can switch to something else. What happened to you to have to get on the pump? She has chronic neuropathic pain and has had it for years. They never have diagnosed her and she has been to many many docs. Let me know if I can help further.

Hi bj1208
Thanks for the info. I am going to see my family practise and see if he knows this physiatrist. I am glad if they will respect that if you tell them twisting and bending hurts or that you can't lift your leg that they won't force the issue. I do think this is a very possible route. Don't they always send you to physical therapy though? Since I have been injured and made a lot worse by two Ph.D. level PT's I am reluctant to try that again. I am even afraid to get into my car because I couldn't lift my leg high enough to do it before and when you turn the car it hurts. What a life. I went from being a full time microbiologist, jogger, hiker, avid tennis player and so forth to barely able to walk and can't work (also due to tendonitis in both wrists from work related injury). It is hard to take and I keep getting muscle pulls just when I get somewhat better. I don't know. It is very discouraging. I know others have worse problems but I can't even put my pants on myself or wash below the waist. So much for dignity!

bj1208,
I just found a physiatrist in my area. She sounds like she got a lot of positive feedback from patients. I may go to her. Maybe she can help. But I am afraid she will hurt me trying to twist me or get me to lift my leg etc. Do they do that like all the other docs?

hi Lysem
I also meant to say that the doctor thought it was a side of effect of a combo of klonpin and Lexapro or neurontin, klonopin and lexapro. I will look up too the side effects off Lexapro because now I'm curious since we both had leg problems from it. I still advice switching the drug to another antidepressant if you can. Maybe they will call it in even if you don't go to the office they do that for me all the time and I haven't seen the doctor in a long time. Just tell them you can't get in but need to switch drugs. I hope this helps. I understand your comment about being frustrated with see a doctor . I think people in general are worried for you and wnat to help. I am on this website because I can't get the answers to my questions from my GP and I can't get in the car due to my back problem so i need all of your experience on this website. That is why I think we are all here. It is really crummy that we can have universal health care like a single payor medicare like insurance for all citizens of the US. That my opinion that we all deserve basic good health care. If lexapro seems to be causing aproblem and when you go back on it it comes back I wouldn't use it again. I'm thinking as I write what would help. Are you taking Lexapro for pain or another problem or for depression? Cimbalta and lamictal are good for pain and depression while others just for depression.
hope this helps.

Do you have degnerative facet? If so, then they will probably ablate the nerve. My doctor had it done and he felt great after recovery for about 6 months or 8 mo. and then the nerve grows back. So you will get relief but it is temporary and you have to go through the surgery each time. Maybe try it if the pain is bad enough for morphine. If then the surgery isn't bad then you will have some relief.

Hi Darlene,
I don't have a pump but my sister in law had one and hers leaked too. So, the ER took it out and didn't give her anything and she went into withdrawal and severe depression. She went to the psych unit for depressed and withdrawal (don't know what you call it) and she sayed for a month and they really helped her. They were able to get her off morphine and onto other combo of drugs that she is able to deal with. So now instead of being in bed all the time she is working 3/4 time and got married. She has ups and downs and still has neuropathy but maybe it would help you to do the same. I don't mean anything bad by this only it is so hard to get off of morphine. The spinal fluid withdrawal should be gone in a few days but it is murder from what I hear. You are supposed to lie flat when it happens for 24 hours. I know she takes Lamictal and some other drugs and it is workings somewhat.
hope this helps a little.

Hi Lysem,
I don't know directly whether Lexapro causes sciatica. Does it say anything in the PDR or side effects about leg or nerve problems? I will say that I went on Lexapro for a short time. Back then I was jogging 3 miles a day (I was very athletic until my back injury) and one day during jogging I had been on Lexapro for about3-4 weeks and I lost all the strength in my legs. I went off Lexapro that day and told my doctor. He thought it could have been a side efffect with Neurontin or Klonopin but otherwise hadn't heard of it either. I think it is an awful drug. I would switch to something else.
good luck.
