My Story:
I have had surgery on my L5 S1 twice, 3 months apart. The 1st one in Dec of 2010 cause my disc was bugling 3/8 of a inch. Three months later I sneezed and my disc ruptured, surgery again, no choice I couldn't walk. Months later I was starting to have pain again. Ignored it for half a year or more. When I couldn't take the pain anymore, I called my Neuro surgeon to tell them I was have problems and needed to make an appt. What a joke! Even though they had done 2 surgeries on me, they wouldn't see me w/o a new CT or MRI. Anyway, insurance wouldn't pay not unless a specialist write the order, but the neuro wouldn't write it or see me. So, in short I had to go to the ER. Pissed at my surgeon I looked for another. The new surgeon told me it was scar tissue and nothing could be done. Even if it was surgical he wouldn't take me on as a patient and to go to the Doc who did the surgeries. My neuro surgeon gave my the same diagnosis (scar tissue) and referred me to a PM doc whom made my problems worse. Injections under the tail bone is painful, she changed my pain meds to tramadol. The second visit a week later, I was told I had whelps on my backside. I knew it was allergy related cause I have had allergic reactions before to meds. She tried to refuse to do the injection. Since I'm allergic to Benadryl, I get a round of steroids and allergy pill to counter act the reaction. I thought the injection would work. The steroid injection just bathed the area, not my body. I spent 26 hrs in the hospital in anaphylaxis shock. I barely made it. To top it off during my second injection something happened. During the injection my blood presser was a little high 137, I was told that was due to pain and then my whole body jerked, my blood presser went up to 184. I asked her what went wrong, that hurt to the point I puked and was shaking from the pain. She brushed it off as nothing and continued. The next day I couldn't sit, both my big toes was numb. This all lasted for 8mo. I never went back to her. With research discovered she hit a nerve. I have found a new PM doc and happy with him.
On his orders, I have had a stimulator implanted last Oct. Was doing fairly well with it until they changed the charging system. I had to turn it off for a few weeks. The charging site got very tender, couldn't lean back or touch the site. I have since received a new charging system, so far so good. What gets me I have done everything they have told me to do. Not my PM Doc or the St. Jude rep has told me of the problems they are having with the malfunction of the stimulators other than the burning of skin for charging to long. I'm being very watchful. I'm having break thru pain the past 2 months. I have seen another neuro surgeon cause I just couldn't believe there is nothing that can be done. Well, Boo not unless there is a new problem with the disc, there is nothing that can be done. In the past 2 months the numbness has gone from my right pinkie toe to all 4 toes and the ball of the bottom of my foot, my heel, parts of my leg and my right hip. I can't stand more than a half hour at a time. Last Sept. it has started to affect my bladder. My home has become my prison. My 4 boyz think I'm a addict. I don't really talk with my hubby of 33 yrs anymore about this. Wow, this is not how I planned to spend my days. With all the technology at hand, something so simple can't be fixed!
