So, I have been having low back pain for a while, that has been getting progressively worse and more often. I have a constant aching in my lower back that is sometimes not too bad but other times it is really bad and regardless of how it starts at the beginning of the day, it is pretty bad by the end of the day after doing all i have to do all day as a stay at home mom with a toddler. i also have days that the pain gets sharp and goes around my hip and down the front of my thigh. the newest developement has been spasms on the right side of my lower back that feel kinda like someone sticking me with a knife. i went to a specialist, who did an xray, said there was a little bit of arthritis (which obviously doesn NOT explain all the symptoms) and told me to do exercises to strengthen my core and id be fine. i went back to my pcp, who agreed that this didnt explain half of my symptoms. she sent me for an mri. the report she got back from the mri said that it showed 2 bulging discs. so she sent me to a different specialist. i brought him a copy of the mri. he looked at it, took more xrays, "listened" to my symptoms and said "everything looks 100% normal except for a little arthritis. do these exercises to strengthen your core and you'll be fine". really? again with ignoring half my symptoms? and how did the mri that showed 2 bulgin discs suddenly become 100% normal??? i asked him how do i manage the pain in the interim, enough to do these exercises. thats when he went off on me with this massive lecture about the dangers and addictivness of narcotics. then he prescribed me to take 500mg naproxen twice a day. thats a full gram of naproxen a day! that stuff causes thousands of deaths a year from internal bleeding! definitely the safer way to go, right? and it doesnt even help my pain! i am so frustrated with these doctors who are not paying attention to what i am telling them. i feel like they are blowing me off and treating me like some druggie looking for a fix. i just want pain relief enough to be able to do the things i need and want to do. i feel like just because the reason for my symptoms is not immediately obvious to them, they just rule those out as being in my head.
