Again sorry to see that you and your family are having a rough time. I wish I could give you more and better advice but i am just a supporter with no medical training my self. My wife has Bipolar disorder and she has lashed out at me when her bipolar is out of whack and she has troubles with the limitations bipolar can put on her. So i know what you are going through. So take my advice with a grain of salt.
I wish you luck and better times soon.

So to sum it up you seeking help for bipolar disorder especially mania mean getting medical help.
By the way you may want to respond to my response with what your symptoms of mania are and the others on this board may be able to tell you what they do to cope those same symptoms. Mania symptoms do seem to very greatly.

Let me start by saying I am very sorry to hear what has happened to your husband. Getting your husband help at this point sounds like it would be very complicated and I have no useful advice to give you since I do not have any training in law. But I know of a group called Nami ( http://www.nami.org ) they are a grass root organisation that helps those with mental Illness and the family of those with mental Illness in a way that resembles ALONON most of NAMIs chapters have educational classes and group meetings for family and those with mental illness. So to sum it up there may be some people at NAMI that could give you and your in laws advice and support that will help all of you through this very trying time. I hope my response helps.

It is very unfortunate but in a lot of cases when some one with bipolar can not be convinced they need help or does not want help it becomes very hard to force help on them. Not impossible but very hard. I am with you I hope bretsky12 finds a way to get his wife the help she needs and deserves.
I bumped the duplicate post to the top in case you missed it.
