WebMD Cutting Staff 14% - 250 Jobs - In Cost Cutting Program
WebMD this morning disclosed plans to cut 250 jobs — about 14% of the company's staff — as part of a plan to reduce annual operating expenses by about $45 million. The company said the plan is designed to "streamline its operations, reduce costs and better focus its resources on increasing user engagement, improving customer satisfaction and driving innovation."
[br>The job cuts at the Web-based health information provider will be effective at year end.
[br>"WebMD's value proposition for users continues to be very strong," CEO Cavan Redmond said in a statement. "Becoming leaner and more nimble will enable the company to extend our leadership in this highly dynamic and increasingly demanding marketplace. In addition, anticipated changes in U.S. healthcare will provide meaningful new opportunities to link the needs of patients, consumers and healthcare professionals to enable them to navigate their care. We are moving swiftly to implement these operational changes and new market initiatives."
[br>The company expects to take a pre-tax restructuring charge of about $6 million to $8 million in Q4, mostly for severance and related costs.[br>WBMD this morning is up $1.06, or 7.7%, to $14.91.[br>
Sadly, it appears things have turned a corner, and what we once knew will no longer be the case. Why they deemed it unnecessary to share this with our communities is a question which remains unanswered, but I wanted to let everyone know so we did not continue to expect their reappearance (much as we had always awaited a promised "expert" for this board!)
Sorry the news isn't better. We wish Caprice and Haylen and all the gang our best...They will be missed.
Blessings.

I was sent for an u/s today. The radiologist said that it did not look concerning. He said it appears to be a lymph node and, the way it lights up on the sonogram, it does not appear unhealthy (low concern is what he said). He said the ones that are troubling to them show up dark.
My GYN had already scheduled an appointment for me with a breast surgeon. I also went today. He gave me a breast exam and told me it could be a lymph node but there is no way of knowing definitively about the identity and safety of the mass without a biopsy. He recommends a lumpectomy, which I have agreed to. I want the thing out.
This is the thing....they don't have an opening until Jan 31, so about 2 weeks. I am in agony with worry. I try to keep my mind in a healthy place, but I have an 8 year old and a 6 year old and my mind of course races with the what-ifs. Is this too long to wait? Is it normal to wait this long for a biopsy?
The other thing that is sending me off the deep end is that the surgeon noticed my left nipple is inverted. He asked me about it, of course. This is not something that's new. I had the flattest of the flat nipples prior to having my first son. Through breastfeeding, they eventually came out, but one has always been shyer than the other. I know this isn't a new thing and one of them has always retracted, but my mind is now telling me that maybe my memory is wrong or this is new and I have inflammatory breast cancer. UGH.
How do I control these anxieties, and does anyone know how the inflammatory cancer is diagnosed? Now, I feel like I should be pursuing this as a possibility as well.View Thread

I am thankful that I just found this group online. God bless all of us strong women! Wishing everyone a healthy 2013. The last time I joined a WebMd discussion group it was when I was pregnant with my now 3 year-old.
I am 26 years-old. I had a lumpectomy over 2 years ago which revealed that I have LCIS. Because of that and several other factors, doctors believe I have an 85% chance of developing BC in my lifetime.
Therefore, I have finally been able to gain enough strength & courage to schedule my double masctectomy w/ immediate reconstruction on February 13, 2013 (coming up quick!). I elected to get the Latismus Flap procedure b/c the plastic surgeon said he could create the same-shape breasts w/o having to put in expanders. I am trying to be strong, but I am having a really tough time anticipating this operation. Has anyone had this procedure? Can anyone give me some tips of what I can expect for the recovery or what I should know going into this? I have never had surgery before nor anesthesia and I just don't know what to expect. I have 2 LO's (3 & 7). My mom will be able to stay w/ me for a week or two. It is a tough situation because my husband doesn't exactly support me in my decision. He thinks it is crazy to put my body through all this even though I am perfectly healthy. I think he will come around eventually, at least i'm hoping.
Thanks for reading! God bless.View Thread
I went to the doc today. The test didn't show what it was. He says
the lymph node is near it, but its a normal size. He says not to
worry. He thinks its the stitching for the implant. ( like scar tissue)
But he's not letting it go. He says if it grows any at all . It's comming
out. He wants to see me the dame day of my next scan which is in Feb.I am sure they will scan me alot now. Oh , great. A million
more doc appts. Just what I wanted. But I am still feeling good
Trying to loose the christmas lbs. Back to my healthy eating.
So over all good news.
Thanks for being there Ladies, I treasure all of your advice!

Very sad to report she passed away on Sat. Jan 5th in the hospital with her G'kids and family around her. She died the way she lived with courage and dignity. She would have celebrated her 93rd BD on Feb 14th this year. She enjoyed her life to the max. My DH and her played pool on Thanksgiving day-- again on Christmas Eve after we had taken her out to dinner. She had spent Christmas Day with us and family and really enjoyed herself.
Please do not be sad for her or I as we shared a very long happy life together. I am so thankfull she did not suffer, was in no pain, and the hospital was awesome.
Thurs night the assisted living place called me about 11 pm told me she was vomiting and diarrhea--- could I come down and sit with her as they had 10 other residents with the same thing. I thought it was the flu but after helping her back to bed my heart knew it was something pretty serious. The Day shift RN (who was my very favorite) had come in to help the staff with this crisis. Amy kept coming in and checking on us. I laid down on the bed with my Mother, talking to her and asking her if she knew who I was. at that time she said yes, my daughter. I read to her from the Bible and was just talking to her. Amy kept coming in and taking her vital signs. About 2:30 my Mother vomited pretty violently. I rang for the nurses. Amy came rushing in and accessed the situation. Called me out into the living room said very sternly to me, "Jan, I HAVE to send her to the hospital. I can not have your Mother dying of the flu" I knew both of us knew it was more than just the flu. I begged her to let me have a little more time but I knew she was right.
After they got her to the hospital did a CT scan found she had had a massive stroke and there was no hope of recovery. The ER doc was super nice. He said it could be hours or a few days. Very caring and oh so kind. The hospital was over-flowing so had to wait for a private room. Around 5 am I started calling family before most of them left for work. She was surrounded with love from her family.
Again I so rely on this board for support and I thank you all for your kindness. As my Mother lived her whole life in another town that is where her service will be a 150 miles north of here. Yesterday I went down to her apt and found in her file cabinet exactly what I was looking for. Her funeral plans.
She had her whole service planned out even to what she wants the Pastor to say. Including songs, details of who does what and etc. One think that just cracked me up was her statement.
"I request a NO drinking party!!!! If any of the survivors has a problem with this THAT is just too bad." Then she signed the paper.
Yep, that was my Mother still giving me instructions and directions from heaven!!!!
Thanks,
JanView Thread

This is my question, what is the point of having all of these scans. Last year I had one PET/Scan,four MRI that included two lumbar spine, one of the hips and one of the pelvis, then a CT scan of my lungs last week. In 2011 I had two MRI and two PET scans and what is so funny is I could never figure out what they are telling me. With a PET scan if you do not light up like a light bulb, all is good. I mean they do not mention that there are per say lesions in all of your bones, or anywhere else. I mean after having what six MRI I did not know that the lesion where in my bone marrow, it seems everyone else did, because I did not understand the terminology of what they were seeing. I had a CT scan of my lungs last Saturday, they were looking for blood clots, I was at the emergency room and guess what the Dr was more concerned with where all the lesions in my thoracic vertebral levels consistent with metastatic disease that showed up on the scan of my lungs. In February I am off for another PET/Scan and it will be of great interest to me to see what they mention.
I truly love it when they use the words, "in comparison too or compared with or what was seen on the previous scan" but it is not noted on the report.
I am curious as to what your thoughts are about the results of your scans and are they worth it or should I proceed blindly and not worry about knowing if anything new has developed, my guess is the cancer will let me know if it is there, for me additional pain is the cancer letting me know that it is still moving around.
I hope all is well and that this year will be a good one for you.
Love to all

I'm pretty sure my cancer is back (lump, puckering of skin, change in nipple color) but I am not sure I want to do something about it. I have no insurance, no job and no money. I feel so tired, like I just want to let this run it's course, you know? I just don't know if I can handle one more thing.View Thread

I posted about a month ago regarding an ultrasound done on my left breast and I was nervous about the results...by the way, thank you a lll for the support. Anyway, i didn't hear anything from the doctor...assumed it was nothing and was prepared to let it go. However, something got the better of me and i made an appt, which i had today.
It was a bit of a surprise. 1st surprise - there is actually an additional lump that i didn't even know was there. The one that i could feel was at the 1 o'clock position and according to the u/s, it measures .6x.5. The other one is at the 11 o'clock position about 2 cm from the nipple and it was described as a semi-discrete isoechoic nodule (still trying to figure out what that means).
The other surprise was that I have a BI RADS score of 3 and i'm to have a follow up u/s in 6 months. I know statistically, a BIRADS of 3 is good, however i'm surprised that my doctor didn't call me either way...seeing as i need a follow up. He told me with the holidays he has been busy, but he also doesn't seem that concerned about it.
Unfortunately for me, i spend way to much time on google and while i left my doctor's office feeling pretty good, i keep reading all these stories of women who have a BIRADS of 3 or so and end up having cancer. Conversely, i did read some stories of women who had a score of 5 and it ended up being benign. Anyway, it might be a long 6 months. Would anyone recommend that i take my u/s results to a breast surgeon to review if i want more piece of mind. Thanks again for the support and sorry for my ramblings.View Thread

My daughter and hubby have quite a sense of humor. If you've see A Christmas Story, you'll recognize the deranged Easter bunny outfit that Aunt Clara sent to Ralphie. Well, the Santa Jammy delivered this to me on Christmas Eve, and I have to say that we all laughed until we cried. It was soooo funny! Luckily, no one expected me to leave it on for more than the time it took to make a grand entrance and lots of picture taking.
I had my first session of Carboplatin this morning - it was pretty much a non-event once they got started. The onc hadn't adjusted all the orders so they had to straighten out a few details. Then it took about 30 minutes for the infusion. We were there for three hours; they promise me it will be much quicker next week. I don't care how long it takes if it works! I got a copy of my PET/CT scan report and well, I need this to work.
I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas, and enjoys a happy, healthy New Year.View Thread

CAD did not reveal any suspicious findings.
IMPRESSION: Nodularity, left breast
Breast Ultrasound: Normal architecture of the breast tissue is evident withour disruption of Cooper's ligaments. there is no homographic evidence of a discrete cystic or sold lesion in either breast.
Impression: 1) unremarkable breast ultrasound 2) Left breast modularity correspond to ultrasound findings. Recommend further evaluation with breast mri with contrast.

I am confused as to why they want a MRI when the ultrasound seems clear. Why not do a biopsy if there is something there? I this normal or should I be concerned. Also MRI's are expensive and it is the end of the year, should I wait a couple of weeks since I have to pay my deductable. Or does it seem to show something I need to have checked sooner then later.
My doctor called the director of radiology and he said MRI is necessaryView Thread
I found a new lump. My blood work wa good at my last onc appt.
The onc and the surgeon think that it might be the mesh for my
implant. I hope they are right. ( the last time I found a lump they
acted like it wouldn't be a tumor) I am scheduled for an ultra-sound
and MRI on the 31st. I also hope they don't find anything else.
I feel good, just the usual fatigue and aches we all get. So just
a reminder to check yourself even if you had bi-mast or any
other surg for new lumps. I found it not the Doctor. I also found
the other tumors I had myself. Both of those tumors presented
themselves differently also.
So I am havein a great Holiday anyway! So if you can send
"pinkie " for me on the 31st I will appreciate it! Can I have the
cabana boys too?
