My daughter and hubby have quite a sense of humor. If you've see A Christmas Story, you'll recognize the deranged Easter bunny outfit that Aunt Clara sent to Ralphie. Well, the Santa Jammy delivered this to me on Christmas Eve, and I have to say that we all laughed until we cried. It was soooo funny! Luckily, no one expected me to leave it on for more than the time it took to make a grand entrance and lots of picture taking.
I had my first session of Carboplatin this morning - it was pretty much a non-event once they got started. The onc hadn't adjusted all the orders so they had to straighten out a few details. Then it took about 30 minutes for the infusion. We were there for three hours; they promise me it will be much quicker next week. I don't care how long it takes if it works! I got a copy of my PET/CT scan report and well, I need this to work.
I hope everyone had a fabulous Christmas, and enjoys a happy, healthy New Year.View Thread
Michelle Read my blog at www.mch-breastcancer.blogspot.com Smile and the world smiles with you!
My appointment with the Rad Onc went well and she is pleased that it seems all my neurological symptoms have disappeared. I passed her little tests...lol! I'll go for a brain MRI on 1/22 then see her on 1/28 to see if she needs to zap any individual bad boys.
Then I had my PET/CT scan and brought home a CD containing the scans and a reader. Unfortunately (curiosity killed the cat, right?) I've figured out how to read the scans, at least enough to know it is lit up like a Christmas tree. I am really needing the chemo to work its magic! At least I am mentally prepared for the report and I can hope that it won't be as bad as I think it is. There are some things that light up normally, but I'm pretty sure all those little spots on my lungs don't belong there!
I got an email today telling me I am matched up with a cleaning service under the "Cleaning for a Reason" program. Then I had a voicemail when I got home. I get cleaning once a month for four months, free of charge. I'll alternate this service with the cleaning service I just hired - once a month is not often enough but I'll happily take what I can get.
And oh, let's add Richard Gere to the list of cabana boys. I've always liked him!
I hope everyone is managing the hustle and bustle of the holidays!
It's fairly common for oncologists to not order a scan for lower stage breast cancer, even after treatment is complete. I would ask for tumor markers at every follow-up so that if you see them rise above the normal limit, you have a basis for making the request for scans. And your doctor has a basis for getting approval from your insurance company to pay for the scan. Also, if you have any unusual pain that persists for more than a few days, be sure to notify your doctor. That can be another justification for a scan. There's a lot of radiation involved in PET/CT scans and they are expensive.
Insist on CA27.29 tumor marker tests and there's a good chance that the results will either ease your mind or give and your oncologist cause to look for a cause.
Yes, I did have a great nap until the phone rang...grrr! But I can't get too upset, it was my son and he often calls in the early afternoon when he's on his lunch break. We are going out to dinner with him and his lady on Thursday.
Tomorrow's a big day - meeting with the radiation oncologist at 10:30 then on to the Imaging Center to have a PET/CT scan. It got moved up from Friday to Wednesday. I'm sure it's going to show progression - my CA27.29 jumped from 126 two months ago to 313...that's kinda scary but I haven't been on any chemo since the beginning of the brain mets so it's not totally surprising. I'll be glad to get back into chemo and slow down this beast!!!
Sounds like you had a great visit with Dr. Dreamy! Now you can put this to the back of your mind and really, truly enjoy the holidays!
We are having some really strange weather here - we had snow and ice on the ground for my trip yesterday to have the port installed. Then today it has warmed up and rained on top of that mess. So sweet - our next door neighbor boy shoveled out our driveway then rang the doorbell to see if we had any ice melt. Hubby had to give him a few dollars even though he didn't want to take it, I was so happy because I knew it would be so slippery out there. So now it's foggy and 44 but it's supposed to clear up and get cold. New England weather - if you don't like it, just wait a minute!!!
