My Story:
I am now heading towards my 58th year and have a fantastic husband and 3 wonderful daughters.
I had thyroid cancer in 1985 which had spread through my neck and was told that I had 6-12 months to live, but I got on with my surgery, treatments, and life and was determined to beat it and so far ,so good. I still have to have check-ups with the oncologist and he's like an old friend now.
Twenty months ago I was diagnosed with cancer in both breasts, with a different type in each.I was always aware of checking my breasts and hadn't noticed any problems.I had nothing show in mammograms and was lucky to be given an ultrasound which picked up the cancers.
I had a bilateral masectomy (no choice for lumpectomy) and had chemo and radium on my left side and a year of herceptin and now I am taking arimadex.
The cancer on my left side was very aggresive and was herceptin positive and hormone positive, and most of my glands were affected. The cancer on my right side wasn't as bad and only some glands were affected.
I am going much better than the doctors thought I would and am determined to do all I can to beat this cancer and do as much as I can to stay happy and ENJOY everything I can.
I've started a support group in our area which is going very well and it's good for me to be able to help other people who are affected by cancer.
I find that I forget about what I'm going through most of the time and just get on with life.
Thank you for reading this and I wish you all the best for the future.
Jen
