I have a 6wk old that was doing great at first, here lately he only latches for 5-7mins then unlatches & will not re-latch!! I have to switch him sides, then after that 5-7mins SOMETIMES he will return back to latch on the other side, sometimes he won't...He is gaining weight, but he wants to eat every hour and a half to two hours which is just a lot for me to handle. I feel like all I do is feed him! I am assuming it's because he is only getting the "fore" milk, not staying long enough for the "hind" milk so he's not staying full. Any suggestions/advice/input??
Also, when do you or should I pump? I have tried doing right after feeding but don't get anything!
I was pumping every 3-4 hours at first, & when I asked how to increase my supply was told to pump every 2-3 hours, but at that point it decreased...I was not able to put her to the breast for the first week & by the time they allowed me they had already introduced a bottle so she wouldn't stay latched due to the amount of effort required to get any milk.
I was told when my milk fully came in I would be pumping 4-6oz bottles...I barely made it to 2oz & that wasn't even consistent.View Thread
I had my baby 7w premature & she is now 5w old, my supply still hasn't "come in". While she was in the NICU I was pumping about 30-45ml per session using Medela electric pumps, & about half way through the 2nd week of her being there within one pumping session it dropped to 10ml. I have taken the suggestions to drink more water, pumped more frequently, take Fenugreek supplements & she has been home now for almost 2 weeks. Nothing seems to help!! I contacted the lactation center at the hospital while I was still there they gave me oxytocin nose spray that helped at first but once I hit that 2 1/2w mark didn't make a differene & they are the one's who suggested the Fenugreek. The only thing is now that my baby is home from the NICU I have to pay for their services
I am really upset because I got a Medela Pump'n'Style that was near $300! & I only used it for about 3 weeks, then my baby had to be supplemented with formula! Now that she is home & I am a stay at home mom I want my supply to come in but I fear it is too late...Can it take over a month for your milk to come in?
