My question then is, have I been tested too soon? I was having some mucus in my stool that I reported to my doctor, just not as much as I have seen this last week. I have also read that most people have symptoms for years and then are tested. Now I am confused. I know I could go ahead and try to be gluten free and see what happens, and I hopefully will know more in 10 days after more testing. But I am growing more and more scared every time I "go" since I don't know what I will see! This is so scary. ANy other ideas what this might be? I do also see what I think is fat i my stool, but I eat very little of that as well. Thank you so much for any help you can give. Good luck to you all.View Thread

It started about a month and a half ago when everything I ate upset my stomach so much I couldn't really do much. I felt nauseous and sick all day and wasn't motivated to do anything. Then I started having this garlic smell on my hands when I woke up every morning, although no one else could smell it.
I have had food allergies for as long as I remember but have never really had any reactions to foods until now. I have recently started trying a gluten and dairy free diet, but still find things that upset my stomach (such as coffee with sugar and lactose free milk and also banana chips). Many days I am still nauseous regardless of what I eat.
I also have other symptoms such as weight loss (went from about 140 to 118 in 5 months without trying), extreme bouts of depression, poor memory(always been bad but think may be getting worse), and constant fatigue.
Does this sound like something similar to what you all have experienced? I just can't figure out why still feel sick when eating things without gluten and dairy and hands still smell. I know celiac disease i's not cureable but still debating if should see doctor because of long term symptoms.
Anyone had advice? Thank you!View Thread
It all began on February 28, 2011. It was like any other day. I had breakfast, went to school, ate lunch, came home, had a small bowl of ice cream and watched some TV. However, at supper time everything changed. My dad and I decided to go out to eat at a local restaurant. I was feeling fine, but as soon as I walked in and smelled all the food, I instantly became nauseous. I ran to the bathroom thinking I was gonna throw up, but nothing happened. I sat there feeling nauseous while my dad ate his food. When I got home I ran to the bathroom, because I still felt like I was gonna puke my guts out. Again, nothing happened. For the next four days I was so sick that I couldn't eat or drink ANYTHING. I lost over 8 pounds in those 4 days, which put me below 100 pounds. On the 5th day I went to my family doctor. The doctor took some blood for testing and checked my abdomen out. He said, "You most likely have acid reflux. Take this medicine and go home." I was so surprised at his care-free attitude.
The next day, I was still sick, so my mom took me to the ER. They had to hook me up to an IV since I was so dehydrated. After some x-rays they said, "We don't se anything wrong." They sent me home.
Two days later, I had to take another trip to the ER, this time we went to a different one. They hooked me up to an IV because I was dehydrated again. They took some x-rays and said, "Your really constipated. Try some laxatives at home." I went home, took laxatives, and had a bowel movement. However, I was still nauseous!
Fast forward a couple months: I went and got an upper-GI scope & stomach biopsy done. Everything came back normal.
In May 2012, I finally went to an alternative doctor who almost immediately order a blood test to be done. She wanted to test for allergies. When the results came back I was amazed. I had several food allergies and Celiac Disease. I slowly weaned myself of gluten, because I didn't want to upset my body by getting rid of it too quickly.
To this day I still have nausea, mild to severe, and the doctor has no clue why. She is still trying to figure it out. Well, that's my story, I tried to make it as short as possible.
Here is a list of my current symptoms:
Nausea (mild-severe, get it almost every day no matter what food I eat, I do take some anti-nausea medications to help)
Headaches/Migraines(can last from 30 minutes to 1 week, pain ranges in severity)
Fatigue
Unexplained Weight Loss (went from 118 pounds to 92 pounds, made it back to 98 pounds but can't seem to gain anymore than that)
Chronic Constipation (I always had trouble with this as a kid, but it wasn't as severe as it is now. I currently take laxatives once a week, if I didn't I wouldn't have a bowel movement for more than 3 weeks)
Eczema (I've had it since I was very young. I read that this can be a symptom of Celiac?)
Can Celiac Disease cause all these symptoms I'm experiencing? I've never heard of somebody with Celiac that has constant nausea before. Could it truly be Celiac or is it something else?
Any Ideas, Tips, Websites, etc. would be very welcome! Thanks.View Thread
I am glad to have found this blog and hope that this can help me help my daughter. My daughter has had tummy issues for the past two years. in 2011 her pediatrician thought it was acid in her stomach and prescribed Pepcid, that wasn't the issue, then in 2012 he said she probably just has IBS. She also had eczema on most of her body, we have it under control and its not red just raised tiny bumps. It has become an everyday thing where she will tell me that her tummy hurts, burns, she always has to use the bathroom, multiple times especially when eating. She has diarrhea often or it is soft stool and even sometimes she feels that she has to go and nothing. Her tummy is always bothering her even when not eating. Her hands are always folded at the the waist and is complaining. I had enough and took her back to her ped and now finally we have an apt with a GI on Thursday that I am hoping can shed some light. I have been researching Celiac and think that this is what my little girl could have. My question is what are some tests that can show if gluten is her problem. I can most defiantly tell you that when she eats gluten foods she has issues immediately.View Thread
I have never had any symptoms except for anemia and low blood calcium . None of my blood tests indicate I have CD and I have been tested 4 times. I was put on a gluten free diet which I have strictly adhered to for a year. Then another endoscopy, and still the villi are showing damage in the 3 biopsies that he took.

so I am attempting to seek some further information. Here, is the overview of my health situation, at moment.
Jan 2012: Test results showed low b12 (147ng). Doctor did not recognize it suffered depression, anxiety, insomnia, pains, fatigue; cramps; numbness; tingling, migraines, ear pressure, head pressure, temple pain.
July 2012: Nuerologist sees low-b12 and tells me to take sublingual b-12 (1,000mcg). Do so with slight improvement.
Aug 2012: See family doctor and b-12 shots are administered (1,000mg cyncobalamin). All seems to work successfully for all other symptoms but see feeling neck pain; soreness left temple; slight fatigue; afternoon lethargy; and sporadic light constant pain and numbness near left eyebrown to cheekbone. No other nuerological symptoms compared to from Jan-July.
October 2012: Will take sublingual b-12 methly-cobalamin (1,000mcg-5000mcg daily) in addition to b-12 injection (1,000mcg) once-to-twice per week.
This where I have the question, is it simply b-12 (I do not have anemia) or is it low D, my high calcium, and Celiac diesease, as well?
Test Results Sept/Oct 2012:
Vitamin D: 32
Calcium (serum): 10.7 and in October 9.7
Positive Celiac Disease
1. Should I be taking a vitamin D supplement, as well?
2. Should I get my parathyroid check? Do symptoms point to hyperparathyroid?
3. How should I handle my Celiac and the deficiencies?
More information:
age: 28/female
prior active, non-smoker, non-drinker, was vegetarian for 7-years and did not eat dairy besides goat milk.
Diagnosis of Celiac Fall 2011
Never on any medications. Currently not on any medications. Did take Nexium for 2-years sporadically for GERD.
No other health issues.
Attempting to figure out the remaining symptoms: left temple pain; letharg (afternoon especially); facial pain slight mostly by top of eyebrows to cheeckbone; slight facial numbness/tingling/sensitivity.
Any assistance would be so very appreciated! CheersView Thread

I'm new to this section and my daughter is currently being tested for Celiac Disease. When my daughter was born she was always a very spitty baby, she FINALLY got Zantac for reflux when she was 10 months old. She was doing great with it and started to wean her off of it. She finally got off of it when she was 13 months old and did wonderful without it. Without warning 2 months later she started to spit up again. I mentioned it to her pedi and she felt that at this time, she shouldn't be spitting up anymore, and referred her to a GI. When I was telling her GI about all of the symptoms including her constipation issues when she was an infant and now diarrhea on and off he highly suspected it was Celiac Disease, but in the mean time he put her on Prevacid. They did blood work and only 1 of her test came back abnormal (tTG). It wasn't extremely high but still in the abnormal range, so he left it up to me as to whether or not to do the endoscope. I chose the wait it out option and do a repeat blood draw in 5 months. Over the weekend she started to have her diarrhea spells on and off again and on Sunday her stomach did seem to be a bit larger than normal, so I called him last night and he wants to do a stool sample. I am new to this and need some thoughts as to what to expect if/when she has to do the endoscope and what your symptoms and diagnoses journey was. Thanks so much for your timeView Thread
I'm 35 and have had migraines since I was a teenager. My hair started falling out about ten years ago and is looking pretty bad. I've been on a number of antidepressants over the past ten years for anxiety attacks and bad depression. I have a phantom knee pain that's pretty bad and the MRI showed nothing, but the pain is very real. As I continue to go to the doctor, it's been determined that I had a pretty bad Vita D deficiency.
I have to wonder of this isn't all related and could it be a gluten allergy? Your thoughts?View Thread
Has anyone else any experience with this? My doctor doesn't want to run blood work until I've taken Gabapentin for a while. I tried the lowest dose (100mg/day, was to be increased to 3x daily) and took myself off after 4 days - massive depression and horribly over emotional.
Any assistance would be greatly appreciated. I've an appointment with a different physician Sept 4th, in hopes that "fresh eyes" may help. Am hoping that my neurophathy is not permanent.View Thread

Anyway, to my question. I have been on and off of iron supplements for years. The highest my hemoglobin ever got was around 10 or 11, and that was with iron supplementation. I just got the results of my last CBC, and I was shocked... lol. My RBC was 5.13, which was a tad high (.03 high), my hemoglobin was 14.4 and my hematocrit was 43.5. Neither one of those has EVER been that high. Everything else was normal, except my BUN was low and creatinine was low, but the ratio was normal. (They were just slightly low.) Nothing has changed, my diet is the same, my menstrual cycle is the same, iron supplementation was the same, etc. Any idea why my hemoglobin and hematocrit would suddenly improve? They did not test my serum iron with this CBC, but the last one I had a few months ago, my serum iron was either 10 or 12, with the normal being between 40-60, I believe. How could my hemoglobin and hematocrit improve so much so quickly??? It kinda has me a little freaked out, lol!
Any ideas you can give me, I would greatly appreciate! I know I could call my doc's office, but I am afraid they will think I am a little nuts... lol!
How are things with you? I have thought about you often and wondered how you were!View Thread
My symptoms were severe chest pains and shortness of breath. After I ate, i felt like someone was squeezing my windpipe closed and the chest pains were awful. I felt best in the mornings....cuz I hadn't eaten anthing all night. So I figured it had to be something I was eating. trial and error.View Thread
