I stopped taking my most recent prescribed statin because over a 30 year period I've taken everything available and nothing has ever dropped my total cholesterol below 200. A low fat diet did not work, exercise did not work. I've been told I inherited this from my mother's family. I do now drink a smoothie with several fruits, spinach or kale, unsweetened almond milk, cinnamon and flaxseed meal every morning for breakfast. I also have increased my fiber and take natural plant sterols. This has finally dropped my total cholesterol nearing the 200 mark.View Thread
My grandmother had high cholesterol, my mother has high cholesterol and I've been told for 30 years that I have high cholesterol. My grandmother did not die from this, my mother is 84 and she has no blockage because of this. I've taken numerous brands of statins and sometimes more than one brand at the same time and my total cholesterol has never dropped below 200 ( it usually averages 270-290). I'm very careful what I eat, not much meat mostly fresh fruits and vegetables and I'm not overweight and I stay very active. Recently my son has gotten me drinking a smoothie made with unsweetened almond milk, fruits, spinach, cinnamon and flax meal. My total cholesterol dropped almost 50 points. I've also increased my fiber. I've stopped taking my prescribed medicine and started taking CholestraCare which is natural plant sterols and from everything I've read this can also lower your cholesterol.
I also know someone who is about 50 lbs. overweight, eats anything and as much as they want and their total cholesterol is 175!!!!!!!!!!!View Thread
