I am 62 yo woman, 5'3", 120 lb, no history of heat disease, walk 1-2 mi 6-7x/wk.
Needless to say, I freaked out when I say my blood results and my doctor wants me to go on statin medication I want to avoid taking any meds and would rather lower my cholesterol via diet and exercise.
I started monitoring what I eat and log both diet and exercise in in a daily log on WebMD website. Also started using ski poles when walking to increase my heart rate (usually walk 1 hr daily). I thought I had a fairly good diet but obviously something is wrong. I know I need to eat more fiber and I stopped eating in front of the TV and trying to eliminate processed foods. I reduced my caloric intake to lose 10 lb, although I'm not sure I want to weigh so little, but wouldn't mind losing the stomach fat.
Am I unreasonable to want to lower my high cholesterol level in 3 months via diet & exercise? I would really appreciate suggestions, corrections.View Thread
