I am on my second dual power port in just two months apart ! I am waiting for my report from the pathologist who examined my port.
If it comes back that it is a defect does anyone know who I can
contact regards this. The Surgeon who replaced my port
and injected dye before hand and found it leaking, we thought it happend from a IV nurse who punctured it but I have not received the report yet.
My insurance is having a fit and I want to make sure the right person is held responsible.
Thanks for any information you can supply.

I am a Neurosarcoidosis & Systematic Sarcoidosis sufferer and I just had a dual power port put in my chest April 19 2012.
Up until 2 weeks ago my port was fine I had no pain since the surgery, and I went to the ER to have my weekly blood draw because the lab was closed due to the holiday and they called the IV team down to access my port, well this women did not know what she was doing and she felt resistence and she pushed even harder and I screamed because she really hurt me, also when I got home I had to change my bandage due to it was still bleeding. Since then I have had severe pain inside where my port is and pain shooting up into the right shoulder, I was told no fever no infection by my local ER and my family dr. So I called the Dr who did it and they said come right away, so I did and they worked quickly to access my port which the one side the nurse could but the other port she could not access so the Dr had to do it. they took me to have dye put in and they looked at my port and cath, and they found a good amount of dye that came out the cath. So the Dr told me that the port was torn when the ER IV team accessed my port . I told the Dr it feels like something tearing inside and hurt so bad when he injected the dye.
So he said he would like to have kept me and took out the port that day but it was the end of the day and everyone went home except two nurses , they stayed because they knew I was coming, so he said this monday they will call with the day this week I need to be there to remove this.
So here I go I must have another surgery to remove than another to have another port placed on the left side of my chest when this one heals.
The dr said he will know exactly what this IV team did when he gets it out. I am going to call the Hospital and make a complaint and she what they do because I know my insurace is going to fight having to pay another $6,000 to put a new one in. And I have been in so much pain I guess depending on what the Hospital says I will be filing case against them.
Has anyone else had their Power port broke by someone trying to acess it?View Thread

Thank you very much. I will check out the link you gave me.
