It's pretty benign in that it simply maintains a higher concentration of serotonin and clinical studies seem to support it's beneficial effects . (sorry no references).
So for me, no clusters in all the years I've been taking it. I find it a great alternative to Imitrex, which also works wonders but it's pretty heavy-duty!!!!!
Cheers to all.View Thread

Heavy duty breathing excersices can actually eliminate the headache but you need to know how to do it properly and for how long. I used to do it till my lips and fingers would get numb, then back off a tad, but kept it up. It does work wonders as does an oxygen tank.
I was on Imitrex which worked great for me, but I really dont like taking that heavy duty drug.
I've finally sured them and didn;t know it, but my wife figured it out. I had begun taking sertraline HCL (Zoloft) for anxiety, but the increased concentration of serotoniun in the trigeminal nerve systme seems to have been enough that I dont get them anymore.
I hope this info can help you or someone else!!!!View Thread

I just discovered my potential cure though (it's a 2 parter):
1) Was on an SSRI (selective serotonin re-uptake inhibitor) drug Sertraline for a few years for anxiety and hadn't had the cluster migraines in the same time. I went off the drug for some reason and immediately they returned.

2) I had my first appointment with Dr. Brendan Cleary at the Toronto Migraine Clinic in Georgetown, Ont. Dr. Cleary uses a rare form of accupuncture to treat migraines and purportedly has >90% success rate. People from all over the world go there, even a lady made a pilgrimage from Afghanistan.
I went in there with a migraine and left without it and it hasn't returned all day. I have a few more appointments but believe this will work. I want off Imitrex.
Conclusion: SSRI drugs for prevention and Accupuncture at this clinic.
Good luckView Thread

I use it in tablet form (50mg) and injection (0.5ml vials) and have excellent success with it, although I would rather not have any of them.View Thread

Did you have no luck with Imitrex?? THat works great for me as well as deep breathing excercises.View Thread
