Hope all is going well. Earring glad to read about your improvement. I have been great had that second check up. They did a hearing test, still had middle ear fluid, hearing in my left ear still not 100%. The doctor did a nasal scope, he said i needed one so that he could check to make sure that nothing else was wrong with my sinuses. After the nasal scope he did say that i had a left deviated septum and that may be a reason why my left side is worst. I have another check up any day now need to check to see when.
Anyways as of yesterday i think i got a minor cold, coughing, sinus congestion, anyways today my left ear blocked up and im hearing louder ringing then i have. Just hoping that i dont get another infection. Going to call the ENT and get some prednisone tomorrow to maybe help drain some of this fluid before it does get infected.
Dr. Moser is there any reason why now all of a sudden allergies and colds are effecting my ears? For as long as i can remember allergies or colds never messed me up like this, do you think its just my age im now 29 almost 30 could be a reason why allergies and colds are harder on me now. Or is it my deviated septum?View Thread
Don't worry, most likely you will not lose any of your hearing. I felt the same way when it first happened, i would say my hearing is now almost back to 100%, i still hear a little ringing but honestly nothing too bad. I mainly hear the ringing when its quiet and at night. Just keep taking the antiboitics, ear drops, and i would also see an ENT so he can evaluate your sinus and eustachian tube, in my case my sinus were swollen resulting in eustachian tube to not work propper, he put me on a steroid burst and im telling you it will reduce the swelling and clear up fluid within several hours. It does keep you wired and make it hard to sleep but much better then being all blocked up and not being able to hear. Let us know how everything goes.View Thread
Happy new year, sorry been slammed with work after the new year. Here is an update.
So i made appointment with another ENT he checked my ears and said they def. do not look normal, eardrums were really red and bruises he said. They also did a hearing test to see if my inner-ear was damaged, which came back that my inner ear is ok, and that the hearing loss is due to Fluid in the middle ear. He did confirm that eardrums have closed up and that there is still fluid in middle ear. However he said that most likely its just "fluid" not "infected fluid".
The doctor has put me on a steroid burst and continued another 2 weeks of antibiotics. The Steroid burst really seems to work he has me taking 60mg predisone each day for 3 days then 40mg for 3 days, then 20mg for 3 days, then 10mg for 3 days. My hearing has gotten ALOT better i can finally hear again.
I still have the tinnitus. Not so much the heart beating sound but def. the ringing. Honestly i can not really hear it unless im "trying" to hear the ringing...
Anyways i have another checkup on 21st. which i will def. keep you guys posted.
Thanks for all the help guys. Earring, hope you get better man, hang in there see an ENT ASAP, of if you can try to get a steroid burst it will def help you very fast, the first day i took 6pills it made me feel better with in a few hours. keep us posted.View Thread
Thanks for the reply, that is very helpful information. I will keep you posted on what my ENT recommends. It makes total sense, today was the first day i had no drainage, so im guessing the rupture has healed. The bad part is that my hearing is still almost non existent.
Quick question, can the pus and fluid still trapped in my middle ear drain through the eustachian tube? Or is the pus most likley too thick and gluey at this point? i did notice the last few days of drainage to be much thicker substance not as liquidy as it was before.
Ear Ring, I am praying for you as well, i know exactly how you feel. I hope your hearing loss is not as bad as mine. I also know exactly how you feel about the hearbeat thing. I actually hear my heart beat all day long, that is the main type of tinnitus that i am hearing. Its my heart/blood pulsating. Sometimes the ton or sound of it changes a little but its always to the rhythm of my heart. Man this stuff is weird. When i get better im changing my life around, no more taking my hearing for granted. Will not blast music loud anymore, going to use the BEST hearing protection when hunting or at the gun range. Plus going to change my diet to more natural immune boosting type foods, going to get allergy test done. I want to be proactive about this in the future. I have been in all kinds of pain and nothing compares to this. A few months ago i was bit by a pretty big poisonous copperhead snake and honestly i would take 10 more bites from a copperhead instead of this hearing loss/pain/tinnitus crap im having to deal with. No joke, snake bit feels like a message compared to this.View Thread
My left ear does still drain fluid which is why i figured i should be able to hear better then i do. Or do you think that the hole could be very small draining a little fluid while still trapping a lot in the middle ear.
How long does it take for fluid to become glue like?View Thread
He did not really specify how big the rupture was. The urgentcare doctors made it sound like i had HUGE ruptures and really bad ear infections. The ENT makes it sound like its normal and that im just like all the other cases. I guess we will see.View Thread
Dr. Moser i think i am going to go and see a second ENT on monday. I think its smart just to get a second opinion. I just have this weird gut feeling that something is not right. I am one of those guys that never gets sick, nevers needs medicine and to all of a sudden rupture both eardrums and lose my hearing almost completely just makes me worry.
I also wanted to ask you if there is any kind of procedure for them to actually drain all the fluid from my middle ear. I just want my hearing back, i dont even care about tinnitus, as long as i can hear i wouldnt mind a little ringing, im just scared that im going to hear like this for the rest of my life plus the tinnitus. My hearing is so bad that i could not hear anyone unless they spoke REALLY loud or got really close to me today. My employees will walk into my office and talk to me and i wont even look up because i cant hear a thing, ill see them smiling which i know they are smiling because they have been talking to me and i cant hear a thing.
Is it normal to lose this much of my hearing? I mean even with fluid it seems like i should only lose like 20-30% of my hearing?View Thread
Pain is really bad in the morning and sometimes at night. But mainly in the morning because when i wake up the pain killers have worn off. The pain is in my ear and my lower jaw and teeth. Just a real achy soar feeling.View Thread
Thanks for the reply Dr. Moser, yeah my hearing is totally in the gutter, today i called my ENT just to update him and let him know that my hearing has gotten really bad. I asked him if it was the cipro or the ciprodex he told me most likley its not. He said that if my middle ear is filled with Fluid its like running underwater which is not very effective, same goes for the 3 bones in my ear that transmit vibrations he said the fluid in the middle ear most likley is to blame for my hearing loss....it just worries me because its not just a little bit of hearing loss, i practically can not hear anything. I just asked my wife how loud do you have to speak for me to hear you and she said she has to speak REALLY loud for me to hear. Im hoping this is caused by the fluid and nothing else.
Doctor in your years of practice have you encountered patients that lose almost all their hearing just by having fluid build up in the middle ear? I wonder if its a combination of ruptured eardrum and fluid build up. ?View Thread
