Can you tell me how would I know if the infection is gone at this point (blood work)? I don't "feel" any of the symptoms of mastoiditis. And if there was fluid in the mastoid, does it usually drain from the eustachian tube?View Thread
The discharge papers from the ER stated that the diagnoses was mastoiditis. Can it be that it was the wrong/safe diagnose because of the CT that showed the effusion in the mastoid?
I will cancel the surgery,...seeking 2nd opinion.
God bless you, doctor..you have been very helpful! I Write down all the questions for the ENT before visit...ALL went out the window when he explained the surgery.ALL I heard was SURGERY and the procedure that was to take place..View Thread
Please help, need advice...My ENT scheduled me for mastoidectomy on Monday. I am terrified of the procedure! It does not guarantee that the tinnitus will resolve after the surgery. He reviewed the CT scan with me that I took in the ER when this ordeal first started.
The finding of the CT scan ( I have copy of the CT report) there is a part where it saids "The above finding are currently believed to represent left-side otitis external/media, with at least a secondary left mastoid effusion, although clinical correlation is required to exclude left mastoiditis."
What does this mean?
Typically, with an ear infection does the fluid flow to the mastoid bone in a CT scan?
Yes. I know the last 2 options is a bit aggressive. Like what you said before, it may take time for the tinnitus to go away, but this is really kicking my behind.
I might seek a second opinion soon, if it doesn't resolve soon.I know everyones body heals differently, but this is ridicules. it's approaching a month since the eardrum ruptured/infection. I'm sure that the infection is gone and there seems to be no more fluids in the middle ear. ENT told me my eardrum is healed too...I have to say my hearing is back 95%.
Can this infection really did damage to my inner ear nerves? If so, will an CT scan determine it?
I notice the hearing my heartbeat part of the tinnitus is gone...I can't hear that part of it anymore (I would rather have the heartbeat, instead of ringing!)...but this ringing is remaining here! Am I improving? when one part of the tinnitus is going away?
What do you think about steroids? Do you think Predisone will help in my situation? Do you think there is still inflammation somewhere in the ear?
Just an update for what my ENT told me from the follow-up appt. He said my eardrum was healed and that it was a small rupture. I, of course, asked about the tinnitus and he said that it would 100% go away!! I can hear well out of the bad ear.I say 95% hearing is back, just not as crisp as the good ear.
I told him I was having a really hard time with this loud ringing/anxiety and not able to get any sleep at night. He gave me Loraphem to sleep.
He gave me 3 options: 1. is to wait 2 weeks and see if the tinnitus goes away.
2. have tubes put in the eardrum to drain the fluids.
3. surgery. he said it involves making an incision behind the ear and drill the bone and clean out all the fluids and infection out.( I forgot the name of the procedure, I almost fainted.)
I would do option 3 if it gets rid of the tinnitus!
The thing is..I don't "feel" any fluids in my ear..The fullness is not there anymore.
Why is the tinnitus still here if my eardrum is healed and my hearing is back? It's almost been a month. View Thread
