I received my flu injection last November and within two days had swelling, blotchiness and felt hot. The swelling gradually moved up my arm and into my shoulder. My Doctor gave me antibiotics and took a photo of my arm. In January it was still bad and he injected cortisone into the shoulder which didn't do much good and now six months since the injection I have had an ultrasound which found Bursitis and impingement. I too do not think it was the vaccine but the nurse who administered the injection. I have been given another injection of cortisone and there is a possibility they will do an arthroscopy. It has certainly put me off having another flu injection.View Thread

I found your comment very interesting. I had a flu shot 6 months ago and still I am having terrible problems in my arm and shoulder. The Doctor gave me a cortisone injection and strong antibiotics four weeks after the flu jab as the area had become very inflamed, but now they are saying that the problem is with my rotator cuff and it was probably just a coincidence the problems started when I had the flu injection. The pain and hot feeling goes up my neck and I have nasty headaches. They are now sending me to a rheumatologist - I seem to be going round and around in circles and all I want is to be free of the pain, which makes me feel very 'down' at times, possibly through lack of sleep.
I would appreciate comments from anyone who has experienced these problems.View Thread

I tried acupuncture and whilst it was helpful, in the end had to have a cortisone injection into the shoulder. Fluid had gathered around the shoulder joint and the pain was very restricting. If I hadn't seen the posts I think I would have been extremely worried and thank 'all' for their input - it really helped me knowing that I wasn't alone in this problem.View Thread

After experiencing more pain I saw my Doctor who said the nurse had injected into the tendon. Unfortunately I have developed Cellulitis and am now heavily on antibiotics which are making me feel very tired. However the pain is now easing but whether I will have another flu shot I am not sure.View Thread

Six weeks after having my flu injection and experiencing pain and swelling in my arm, I went to my Doctor who diagnosed tendonitis + infection. Apparently the nurse had injected the vaccine into the tendon! He has put me on very strong antibiotics for two weeks and hopefully things will improve. I was surprised when he asked if he could take a photo of my arm - not sure why.View Thread

Your comment about cellulitis was interesting as a close friend of mine said the same. When I think of how I was taught to give injections and their technique now, dartboard style, it makes me shudder. How long would cellulitis take to clear up as I am due to go skiing in 10 days and my arm and shoulder are still hurting quite badly. I have to say the Flucoxicillen makes me feel so tired, maybe a side effect.View Thread

I had a flu injection six weeks ago and it felt like I had been stung by a Bee. Over the weeks the pain/swelling became worse and two days ago it started to feel hot. I went to my ?Doctor who informed me that the nurse had injected into a tendon and I now have tendonitis infection. He has put me on a 2 week course of antibiotics in the hope it will get better. He also took a photo of my arm for his practice records!View Thread

I held off having the flu injection as I had a severe reaction last year, but eventually was persuaded. It is now four weeks since I had it. When the nurse injected it felt like I had been stung by a wasp. The next morning I woke with a swollen arm and pain - I still have discomfort. When I trained as a nurse we were taught to lift the skin before injecting - now it seems like they are throwing darts! I feel sure it will go in time but I am seriously thinking of avoiding a flu injection next year.View Thread
