I also have had severe outer ear pain as described by the first post for the past several years. My husband makes fun of me....got OEP again....It is really debilitating when it happens but it is usually only a few hours. It is painful to touch the ear and hurts to swallow, turn my head or talk. I have it in both ears-never at the same time. I have noticed gently tugging although excrusiating at first lessens the pain or laying on it hard and not moving helps a little also.
I have not figured out anything that causes it and pain medication does not work for this pain, which makes me think it may be nerve related. I have severe migraines and this does not coenside with my headaches or really seem to be related to diet, activity, wearing glasses (I always wear sunglasses when driving) and I am not allergic to anything that I know of. I have also mentioned it to my PCP and he said it is not infected so he really has no idea what could cause this.
I do have severe migraines so I see a neurologist but they do not seem interested in this problem either. I have had CT scans, no MRI yet looking for possible problems that may have caused my migraines to worsen in the last year and nothing abnormal about the ears.View Thread
