I lived with the ileostomy bag from April 30th until the reversal in June 18th. For the reversal, I stayed in the hospital for 6 days to make sure my body took food (liquid first, cream soup, then solid) and pass successfully.
I am recovering at home for 7 days now. I am gaining my strength back and seem to have good appetite. However, the last two days, I frequent bowel movement about 16 times/day. Each time only small amount. Due to my bowel frequency, this causes my bottom to be painfully sore. How can I reduce bowel frequency? I am afraid to eat my normal portion meals that will cause me to move bowel more. So I eat very little. Any suggestion on food that gives me the energy I need but not pass bowel to much?
In addition, since my rectum was removed, and because the rectum is the holding area for stool until the urge to expel, any of my stool (has been small pieces) could not be held indefinitely. Does this mean that I will have to live with this bowel movement frequency? Or will my remaining colon eventually be able to hold stool until I can pass? I am able to squeeze my anus well and hold the coming stool for short time (but not indefinitely) until I get to the toilet.
Any insight or experience that anyone could share would be greatly appreciated.

I have been reading and reading about this. We were told several months ago that he really only has until October maybe. Ten years ago I went through terminal skin cancer with my mom. When she was at this stage she only lasted a month. I am thinking the same thing about my father in law. My husband thinks he has a lot longer and that he might even get through it. I know he is probably not understanding it all. My husband met my mom 2 days before she died. He wasn't with me with all that she went through and now with his dad.
Another problem with this is that we have not seen him in 5 years. They lived in Michigan and moved to Las Vegas. We live in Nashville, TN we go to Michigan to see his mom and step dad. But it is hard to get to Vegas. It is now 1800 miles one way for us to drive. And flights have gone up. We actually are financially strapped to buy flights too.
I know everyone is different even with the same type of cancer. But I really needed some advice of really how long does any one think he has. I know, we should get out there to see him asap. But my step mother in law is not really letting us know what is going on. She posted on facebook what was going on and my husband sister yelled at her on fb for doing that! Because she didn't know how bad he has been getting either!
I want thank everyone who read this for letting me vent and talk about this. I know it helps me trying to figure this out. Cancer is the worse thing! I do know many of people that have survived it. But there has been to many people that I know that have not.View Thread

I am a Stage IV rectal cancer survivor. During my surgery in 2005 my sphincter in my rectum was far too damaged to ever have my illeostomy reversed so now I am living with a permanent illeostomy. Which is fine. My issue is this. Though I don't use my colon anymore, it still does produce bodily fluids. As that area healed it has had a tendency to heal over and "close up" and every so often I experience a painful pressure where my rectum is trying to release the accumulated contents. Has anybody else ever experienced this and what have they done about it?View Thread
I'm 22 years old, never been diagnosed with hemmroids or anything. For the past three months or so, I've been having painful bowel movements with rectal bleeding. No blood in my stool, just bright red blood when I wipe. It's sometimes a little, sometimes quite a lot. I have been taking a stool softener every day for the past two months now (started with two a day, now one a day) and I think it helps a little with the pain. Sometimes it still hurts really bad, but I can have at least one every week or so that doesn't hurt too bad. It hurts if I have a bowel movement too close after another (like when you think you're done and you're not) and it also itches a lot all day. I have not tried Preparation H or anything like that because I'm scared it will burn when I put it on.
My mom said even young people can get colon cancer, so I'm making an appointment with my OBGYN, but the nurse I spoke to didn't seem to think much of it, and said it's probably a tear or hemmroid. I guess it just worries me that even with a stool softener it hasn't gotten better. I also spoke to a family friend (a couple months ago when it started) and she said that as long as it's bright red blood, it's not anything too bad because internal bleeding would be darker or brownish. I just don't know what to think at all...
Any help would be greatly appreciated.View Thread

His doctor is recommending to perform radiation treatment (3 x-ray beams) on the large cancer cell on his liver.
I would like to ask the following:
1) What is the effectiveness of this radiation treatment the doctor is recommending? What is the general feedback on radiation treatment after 9 rounds of Chemo treatments?
2) What kind of side effects will this radiation treatment introduce?
3) Most importantly, would this type of radiation treatment cause the cancer to spread to other areas in the body?
Thank you!View Thread

Also, after a BM, I can fell a bulge or balloon like protrusion popping out the anus. Is this part of the burning issue? My butt feels raw. I have no idea what is going on. Have I not found the right colon rectal doctor yet?
Yes, I did have a colonoscopy approximately 4 years ago removing 1 polyp.View Thread
I had bleeding or blood in my stool but since I have (huge) hemorrhoids, it's understandable.
I wanna know the other symptoms/effects of hemorrhoids as compared with colorectal cancer. I'm only 26, and I don't think I'm old enough to have CC, can someone help me out here?
And also, what are the other possible diseases that you have (aside from colorectal cancer) if you have these symptoms:
thin stools
feeling of not being able to empty the bowel completely
feeling of bowel being obstructed
Thanks!View Thread
2011 they reconnect me, everything works but my CEA level (tumor
marker) keeps raising my doctors sent me to run some tests, pet-scan,
colonoscopy, they show no trace of cancer nevertheless my CEA is
high. Anyone out there have any comment or advice? During my
surgery on Dec. 16 2010 they remove ovaries, falopian tubes, uterus
and end up with a colostomy bag which as i said was remove. Please
any ideas why lmy CEA level keeps raising? could it be my diet?
I really need an insight. Thrank you for your time.
GOD BLESS.View Thread
