Good morning psr - I had a partial rectum resection about 8 weeks ago. I have and still are experiencing the same problem you described. I was sorried bout the return to work 2 weeks ago also. I have been able so far to kind of hold off against the "need to go" so as to need to hit the restroom only every hour to 2 hours. It is kind of uncomfortable at times but I think we have to retrain the nerves that tell us"we need to go now" into being the nerves that say "get ready to go soon". My docs just gave me the "that is normal it'll get better " response so far. I hope you make it thru a few weeks at work - then you will have a slightly getter idea how to control - the urges. It is tough - hang in there!!
I am a 56 yr old male and had a rectal resection for rectal cancer 7 weeks ago. The resection was 7-8 inches in the middle of the rectum. So that means the rectum consists of the lower 4 inches and the upper reaches. So now just the slightest amount of fecal material results in the brain getting the signal "this man is FULL of crap get thee to a toilet". This happens sometimes 2-3 times an hour. (Very hard working security at an airport with that happening.) Will the nerves in the upper portion of the rectum revert to acting more like the middle used to, or can I somehow train them??View Thread
