Natasha McBride Campbell discovered the GAPS diet. You may want to try to make the soup she suggests and make the homemade fermented cabbage (that will add good bacteria into your gut). It helped me.
Oh, one thing I would def do... Eliminate all Dairy products and Gluten/Wheat/Grains from your diet for now. Don't do carbonated drinks, high sugar, spicy foods, foods with a lot of additives and preservatives. If you cut these foods out, you will see improvement.View Thread

About the cancer side-effect, I have to take this one seriously since my mom died from Melanoma. My grandmother also died of cancer of the liver or colon. Not sure what one... I was very young. In an article I read, for the people treated with Remicade, the people most likely to get cancer as a side effect were people with Crohn's Disease. In otherwords, the highest % of people that actually ended up getting cancer from Remicade, were Crohn's Disease patients. Compared to the other diseases that Remicade treats.
I am also at a higher risk for colon cancer due to the fact that i've had an IBD for over 10 years now.
When I weigh these factors, I do not think a biologic treatment is a good option for me. It's just too risky and not the safest option for me.
LunaNatasha I just encourage you to know the facts and weigh the positives and negatives. For some people, biologics work and people find them effective. Go with your intuition...

I remember reading your posts months ago. You just had surgery. You deserve to feel good... I bet you might have forgotten what "good" feels like because trust me, I've been there and still struggle at times.
Please read about LDN or low dose naltrexone. It's safe, effective, not costly....... BUT difficult to find a dr. that will prescribe it becuase a lot of docs don't even know about it. It's sad. If you're determined like me, you'll find a dr. I finally found one and she's great.
I just think you have been through a lot with your health and need some relief and freedom from the symptoms you experience and the harsh meds you take, that could possibly harm you. If you want more details, let me know. I have tons of links on my blog too if interested http://ahhhhhihavecrohnsdisease.blogspot.com/
I hope you feel better Hannah.

Yes, Remicade and it helped a little, but I'm not sure if the benefits out weight the side-effects/long-term effects of these medications. I've done a lot of research on these and have lots of articles and good reading material to help you make an educated decision.
http://ahhhhhihavecrohnsdisease.blogspot.com/ is my blog and look on the right side and you'll see the Blog Archive. For each month, click on the arrow and a list of each blog entry will show. Just click on the one that is relevant to Biologic drugs, such as Humira, Remicade.
I just really urge you to research Biologic Drugs and what the possible dangers/side-effects/long-term efffcts could be. So many people don't even know much about these drugs and most likely their doctor didn't educate them. It's your health and your responsibility to get the info you need to make the best decision for your overall health. Let me know if you want to know anything specific. I can try to help you.

I don't want to need a bag that holds my waste. I'd rather get my disease under control by using alternative treatment (s) that will be effective. I have A LOT of hope that there are treatments that will be effective and make me better, but I just need to find it. All you need is willingness and a little motivation.
Have you tried diet restrictions like the SCD diet or GAPS diet?
I just suggest you do a lot of thinking before you make this huge decision. Also you may want to try to look into alternative treatments (LDN, acupuncture, diet changes). Getting your colon removed should be your last option after you've tried all other options and they have all failed.View Thread
