Thanks for all the replies, I have since found out that I also have diverticulitis in both my stomach and colon. I suspect that could be a contributing factor as well. I have cut out gluten for now to see if that will help with the healing and pain - I am going to have a biopsy this week.
I am new at dealing with these issues, having been diagnosed with both within a few months of each other. So I haven't been able to wrap my head around either - now both! I am set for a endoscopic biopsy because I also have the ticketing of the stomach wall - I have diverticulitis in both the colon AND stomach ("rare, but not uncommon" quoting my doctor - I've read on the Internet that 10% of folks with DiverT have it in their stomach - not sure if that is right).
I've read many of the postings on different support groups and am 'confused' about a few points:
Seeds/ nuts - I've always heard, and have seen several folks post that they are a no-no for folks with diverticulitis - then I've heard that new research says they don't have any effect. Which is true?
Dehydration - I've noticed several posting about folks with dehydration so back that thy had to be hospitalized. Sooo did those folks increase their water or fall back into not drinking enough? Or is it because of the diarrhea that they became dehydrated? I typically have constipation not diarrhea.
Sooo my big question is if you were back where I am what would you do differently? What tests are best? What questions should I be asking?
I am having a crash course in both disorderers - or are they deceases? But still have loads to learn!
Thanks for your kind reply. Since my last posting my pain seems to be worse - and I am sure my constant concern over my health issues doesn't help! I have a new doctor and he promised me that he was in it for the long haul! He wants to do some more tests to determine a course of action. He said that there are so many causes different Colitis' that we need to know which I have to determine the best direction for care. He didn't promise to 'heal' me - but he promised to do the best he can to get my life as back to normal as is possible. I see him again next week - after he has had the chance to get all my records and read them. I felt really great after leaving his office because I actually felt like someone listened! But, now my mind is going off in a negative direction! I know I need to work on my emotional state - but I am not sure what to do to get there!View Thread
My stomach burns a lot of the time - eating seems to help! But I am gaining weight! And I have constipation problems as well - I have NEVER had diarrhea problems. Is having a burning stomach 'normal' with colitis?View Thread
I was recently diagnosed with Chronic Colitis - but I have constipation - never have had diarrhea. I've always had bowel problems - well not really problems in that it was 'normal' for me. Sadly, I had no idea where my 'normal' bowel 'problem' would lead.
I also have blood in my stool - my doctor said the blood was from my colitis - so I asked him how would I know that the blood was from always from my colitis or something else. He said to keep him posted. EVERYTIME?
How do I get piece of mind that I don't have cancer? Colon cancer is big in my family - no one in my immediate family - but several uncles, aunts and cousins!
Also, will my stomach ever get back to normal size? I have always had a weight problem - but I've ALWAYS had a flat stomach so this swelling is all new - so is the contestant pressure.
Can this every really go in remission? (IS that the right word?View Thread
