This particular situation aside, what stand do you take: Is it okay for stepparents to refer to stepkids as theirs?
Why or why not?

I couldnt agree with you more, when i first read this post, the first thing to come to mind was...Where are the parents? That being said, i dont mind schools offering this program. My caviat would be that during parent teacher conferences, the parents should be made aware that in the next quarter, they will be covering said topic and that the parents should start to talk about it with their kids.
The only issue I see is that many of these kids have really young parents, whom themselves probably never had sex ed. So they may not know the first thing about the topic. The fact is that kids are becoming sexually active at a younger age, what seems like every year. I blame the media/social media and secondly a lack of parenting. Look at the way that MTV glorifies a young girl getting pregnant! So they think, if i get knocked up, i might be able to be on television too! As for some of the parents, I am appauled at how they let their kids dress. Go to a mall and people watch, there are twelve year olds who look 16 and 16 year olds who look 20. If I ever had a daughter, she will be in a habit until she is 18
j/k. But they see the way that Miley, Taylor and the like all dress, and think it is appropriate...Jessica,
That is just mind blowing 8th grade and her second pregnency??? Sadly, I have a feeling that is not as uncommon as it should be. It almost seems now adays that having a baby is a rite of passage into womanhood for these younger girls. Its only a matter of time before I meet a grandmother/father who is in their late 30's.View Thread
it is just that maybe a few of the gun killings not all will be more difficult for the perps to do .
and the majority of gun Violence is in states with zero gun laws
and it is so easy to drive to another state so the efforts we put into gun laws in the States that have them is rather wasted

But, besides that, consider this, the next time you see your doctor...
What would you want them to say if they really, really cared about you? What if your doctor was your son or daughter... Would you want them to lie to you? Would you want them to hold anything back?
When I go to my doctor's office, I view it as one of the last places on earth where I can hear the "truth", and...
...the harder and colder, the better!View Thread
I think it's simpler than that - I think a lot of people don't understand that if they don't evacuate they might DIE.View Thread

Let's make them easier to acquire and less expensive and take the insurance companies completely out of the mix.

I think it is the parents being pushy and pushing their own dreams on their kids. A parent's job is to say no now and then when something is not good for their kids.

If we are going to shut our borders, would that idea be retroactive? This country was founded by illegal immigration, looking to escape religious persecution and make a better life for themselves. I would agree that illegal immigration is an issue in this country and something does need to be done, but there must be a better way and building a giant fence/wall. Considering that many of them are getting in thru underground tunnels. Now I would agree with closing our borders to corporations from taking their business overseas/internationally to use cheap labor and zero safety standards. Bring those jobs back home and that would help on a number of levels. Boost the economy, increase employment and increase tax revenue. Which once we get out of this war overseas, we could pump back into the economy creating more jobs and opportunities.
The sad part is that none of these ideas will ever fly, because there are to many corporate hand outs and lobbiests who have a lot of these politicians in their pocket. It's the age that we live in and i am afraid that their is no turning back. On top of that, executive orders have been abused for many years now, to the point where congress is meaningless. And checks and balences are a thing of the past.
What we need is a strong 3rd party and a candidate with some intestinal fortitude, to stand up to the lobbys and defend the constitution. The type of candidate like our founding fathers who had some clue what morals and ethics where, but most importantly they cared about their country and fellow country men/women.
Im going to assume from your name that you have served in the Military and I would just like to say thank you for your service and sacrifice. Its because of people like you that we still have whatever freedom we have left...for now.View Thread
In regard to the new mother... Another No in my opinion. Pregnancy is a beautiful thing, teen pregnancy is the irresponsible result of making bad and immature choices and it has no place in a yearbook.
Would you put a page in the yearbook honoring someone who bullies others? I don't think so! So why would you put in a page or otherwise hi-light something that is just another example of a bad thing... be that suicide or teen pregnancy?View Thread
