I just have one question. I am 200 pounds and I am a very fit 64 year old male. By the BMI charts I am over weight, but I only have 16% body fat, what am I going to have to do lose the muscle I have been working so hard to get? I really do not understand, the stupid BMI charts, and a lot of doctors, and insurance company thinking. I am lucky that I have found a doctor that sees me for who and what I am and not just something to look up on a stupid chart.View Thread
I say no also. And I also say that I do not believe the BMI charts are correct. I was 285 and very obese even by my standards. I am now 214 and still have about 20 pounds to lose to make my doctor happy. I am off all meds and I feel great except for the normal aches and pains of a 64 year old. I exercise weekly and burn between 2400 and 4000 calories. I also limit my daily intake to about 1800 calories. The BMI chart says that even at the top end I should weigh no more than 189 fully clothed. My doctor wants me to be about 200 pounds. Now understand that my scales and the doctors do not read the same so that is where I am saying about 20 more pounds off. If I as a 64 year old can lose most people can. And yes there are the ones that will never be off meds that cause weight gain. My wife is one of them.View Thread
