There are many possible disorders. I am not saying this is the case and I agree with the cops. I work with autistic children and to correct tkitty's misconception that someone needs to be "severely autistic" to throw a tantrum is outright untrue. Persons throughout the autistic spectrum can be triggered. In this case hypersensitivities to different stimuli can often trigger behaviors. Removing the stimuli removes the behavior. Think of having super-sensitive hearing and having someone standing next to you with a bull horn screaming in your ear. It would be incredibly painful.View Thread

Of course they do! One of the best defenses to many of the malpractice lawsuits is proof showing that you were being pro-active and covering every millimeter. If the lawsuits stopped so would a lot of the b.s.View Thread

First off what an awesome screenname! I agree with this wholeheartedly. I have skimmed through the answers and the only thing that I could add is it would be wise for schools to institute a policy that allows transparency on social networking sites limited to the counselors and targeting those who may be victimized after school off campus. I know it is an a bit of an ethical blurb but haven't there been a couple deaths related to this already?View Thread

In response to your comment on rising gas pricing I will tell you from knowledge being in the manufacturing industry we are seeing China and India simultaneously develop at such a rapid pace that the supply cannot keep up with the demand. The days of lower gas prices are gone. People need to get off this one.View Thread

I saw something different here and it is biased because I have a family member that is a recovering addict. These individuals certainly belong in jail. However, at the same time has anyone considered the possibility that in their poor judgment they did believe their child could suffer more? What was reported in the article is from the trial meaning it came from the attorney. You don't know whether or not they feel guilty, only they do. For some of you that make these 'absolute' comments I ask you to think whether or not you could be the one to pull the trigger? It's easy to pass along the buck and enrage the crowd.

At a population that has now surpassed 7 billion persons can we afford to fix everything?...

At a population that has now surpassed 7 billion persons can we afford to fix everything? That's horrible to say, but is it better to take care of a 100 and lose 1 then put all the money in to that 1 and lose 100?
Technology costs a tremendous amount of money not only in innovation and research but in training personnel and when it comes right down to it if your loved one is dying, you know the technology is available, there may be some scary scenarios played out. You want lower health care. Ask why our Defense budget needs to be equal to 50% of the entire world combined! And those are just the figures reported.
Jay I responded to you not on the ethical point but on moral one that many of our citizens that we call upon to do jobs most of us do not want to do (example being military), end up being left behind later and should they be less deserving than someone who chose not to work for their country, but for themselves?View Thread

Ewcollins, you seem to be presenting the most rational argument on here and brought some data to the table. I find it amusing that in a debate this heated noone has tried to refute or comment on that. I would say you are doing pretty well.

Oh lord have mercy these Evangelicals and their self-righteous saving the world saga...Good luck on that one genxer. I think this topic is mute as it is already out their and there is no turning back. It is interesting how many are insinuating that we are biologically predispositioned to "wait" when historically homo-sapiens have wed and bred at much younger ages when mortality rates were younger and higher. And Diesel, out of all the organic species known to have lived on this planet have any done so much harm in such a short period of time? We're special? Really?View Thread
