I just saw my new psychiatrist on Monday. He said he is a bit concerned about me being on Serzone and its possible liver toxicity. He said that he wouldn't make any changes right away, but is sending me to have lab work done to check liver function (I just had it tested in March, and everything was okay.) He also said that he was thinking that a TCA might be a safer choice for an antidepressant.
Personally, I'm thinking that 1) if the Serzone is working right now, I don't really want to mess with it and 2) I would rather die young from liver failure and feel somewhat normal mentally than live to a ripe old age and continue suffering from recurrent, severe bouts of depression.
The one question he asked does have me thinking though.... He asked what makes me think that the Serzone might be different from the other meds I've been on in the past. I've been through many different SSRI's over the past 9 years (it seems they work for a while, and then lose their effectiveness), and one round of ECT this past February. Any advice would be greatly appreciated.View Thread
