Hi, I've only just joined now to ask about this, so apologies if it's in the wrong place.
I keep having extremely bad nightmares that cause me to wake up in the middle of the night/early hours of the morning, almost always accompanied by me making involuntary noises - usually a wordless moaning/shouting in fear.
The main problem is that it disrupts my partner's sleep - she's a light sleeper and it wakes her up, and she has difficulty getting back to sleep. I wake up from nightmares on average every second night, and this has been happening for roughly four months now.
I've read that drugs such as prazosin or neurontin can help with nightmares, but I don't want to take medication if I can avoid it for personal reasons. Obviously the best case scenario would be to stop having nightmares, but I'd be just as happy if I could just stop waking up from them in the night.
Has anybody else had a similar problem or experience? Was there anything that helped?
In case it's relevant, I used to have night terrors but I haven't since I was a kid. I also had bouts of insomnia as a teenager that seemed to go away by themselves as I got older. I've been dealing with clinical depression and anxiety for my whole life.View Thread
