Page23, I am also a retiree diabetic on fix income so no fancy equipment for me, I normally do a lot of all day hiking whenever weather permitted. But on those miserable days where it is either raining or snowing or too hot to go out, I do my work out at home, right in my living room. All I need is a set of free weights. I would do running or quick walk from room to room, jumping jack 50 count, then plop down on the floor for a 50 push up (5 set of 10 each), then with weights on both hands I do 2 set of lunges (15 each foot per set) both forward and then repeat for backward, bicept and tricept curls. Each time by BG will drop about 30-40 points by the time I finished. If I had a large dinner, I would repeat the exercise about 1 hour before bed. To follow this regiment for 12 years without any medication I have kept my A1C at 5.6 at my last check up in November. So good luck with your exercise. KieubView Thread

Hello,
I have just stumpled into your reply. Soda and candy snacking will definitely spike your blood sugar. Perhaps if you switch from regular soda and candy to just water and fruits and nuts it will help. If you want something sweet, use dried apple pieces instead of candy. As I am a type 2 regular hiker, I have pieces of dried apple and nuts (almonds, peanuts, cashews..) in my pant pocket. I munched on them when hungry but have no time or place to stop to eat. Apples give you the sugar energy and fiber, and the nuts give you protein and fat. It should help with your hunger, and at the same time keep your sugar down. Will you give it a try? KieuView Thread

Hello Sky,
I have had the very same problem like you for many years due to hiking. It is when your boots/shoes were not long enough or loosely fitting, when you going down hill your foot push up against the boot and caused the blood to pool under the toe nails, eventually the nail will fall off and the new nail will grow out again. Only do not try to pull the injured nail off when it is loose. If the doctor checked and found no fungus problem and the foot is healthy then it should not be much of a concern. To avoid the problem I suggest you need a pair of perfect fit boots, snug along side the foot and about 1 full number larger than your dress shoes to leave room for thick cushiony hiking socks and extra room in the toes.
For the first 10 years of my hiking career, I had 3 set of new toe nails before I found the perfect boots and the black toe-nails disappeared for good. Since I found "Cresta" boot my feet were very happy and no more problems for the more than 15 years now. By the way, my husband and I are members of a volunteer trail maintenance group for a section of the AT in PA. We walked more than 1100 miles on all rocky trails per year. This is my own experiences on hiking injury. I am also diabetic type 2, 67 yrs old, on no medication.

I am with David, rarely have a snack at bedtime, only if I stayed up very late, like pass mid-night. My bedtime mostly at below 100 and only sometimes between 100-110. And morning highest would be below 110, most the time under 100. I do not take any medication.
I have been trying to bring my morning down to below 90, but unsucessfull. Only able to do that if I have a small snack before bed, like 1/2 glass of unsweeten soy milk. But I try not to do it from trying to loose weight. The last 5 pounds were very stubborn ones. Three months and not budging!!View Thread

My husband often prepares hot oatmeal (steel cut oat) for breakfast for me, he always adds either raisins or craisin, oatbran, wheat germs, soymilk, grounded flax seed. My 2hrs after meal tests were always low, only in the 80's. Sometime even lower than before breakfast. So I thought that hot oatmeal with steel cut oat is fine. I do not use instant oatmeal so I do not know if it will have the same result. KieubView Thread
