don't get discouraged, its the nature of the disease. All kinds of things other than food affect blood sugar levels..hormones, stress. activity (activity can make blood sugar go down, or up), where you inject, bubbles...the list gores on
I know your son is newly diagnosed, but if the pump is an option, it might be really beneficial for a child his age...its much easier to tweak then with the injectionsView Thread

When you're type 1 and only take insulin, corn, in any form, is evil.View Thread

Usually the hormones out out by the placenta counteract insulin and insulin needs can double or triple in the 3rd trimester.
That said, I did not carry full term, I delivered at 32 weeks and at that point I was taking 3x as much insulin as pre-preg. Hard to say where I would have been had I had gone full termView Thread

I weigh everything that eat since I am on a pump and need to count carbs.
I use the reprogrammed food list for things such as fruit, but for things like pasta, the carb count can vary widely between brands. So I weigh and then calculate the amount of carbs from the package (this is where that algebra we learned in grade 8 comes in handy!!)View Thread
