The truth is they are not doing well. Most people are overweight and are not getting the nutrients they need. They are not healthy and it is just a matter of time, before it catches up to them.
My family has watched me live with Type 1 (the only one in the family) most of my life. Yet my grandmother and grandfather are now Type 2 and my mom is well on her way to becoming Type 2 also. My aunt has seen the family and has chosen to get healthy. The last time I talked with her, she had lost 30 pounds and is still going.
I see from what I am reading here that all of you are making the sacrafice for yourselves.
I don't really see it as a sacrifice. It is finding healthy alternatives. I choose the food, the food does not choose me.
I decided when I was diagnosed, that I never wanted to end up in the hospital again, when I could prevent it. I wanted to live my life and reach my dreams. I knew I could not do that, if I ignored my health. More than 20 years later, I have no complications, an amazing husband, and am doing the job I wanted to do since 4th grade. When the time comes, I want to die of old age, not because of diabetes.View Thread

If my readings were "bad," I did a blood test which I hated. My lancet device had a sticky button (hard to push), with a nasty sounding click, and I would watch the lancet go into my finger *shutter* since it was all open. The blood test took about two minutes to complete.
I remember having to specify that I was on Humulin R and NPH insulin. There was one time where my mom was given the wrong one (pork insulin) and it was a big deal, but I don't really remember why.
One of my mom's friend's was diabetic and kept his glass syringe. He willed it to me to remind me how far treatment had come and to remind me that things would get better and easier. He was right.View Thread

Both my parent's said it was much scarier before I was diagnosed, when they didn't know what was going on or what to do, than after, when we knew what was wrong and had a plan of action.View Thread

It is amazing what you learn at girl's camp.View Thread

Remember that the choice is yours and your husbands. It is not selfish to want a baby for the right reasons. Good luck!View Thread

I'm sure they would not have been happy with "downward dog."View Thread

My cousin started using a really strong tasting toothpaste for the same reason. As soon as the meal is done, she brushes her teeth, because the taste mixture if she eats anything else was pretty disgusting.View Thread
