I hate to admit it, but yes, I have cut down on dosages occasionally...usually when I've waited too long to order a refill. (Instead of four, I'll take 3; most can't be halved so that means those I may just run out of.) There's another one I take...Evista...which is very expensive and not on the Medicare formulary...usually I rely on samples, but sometimes the office doesn't have any. It's not one of my "crucial" meds, so I don't get upset if I miss a few days Samples have been a lifesaver for me.
Update on the Nano...rather the strips: Bought a package of 50 strips (smallest packaging) at Walmart yesterday: $59.95! (Insurance wasn't an option, but will be in about 6 weeks.) The meter may be inexpensive...mine was a freebee...but if you have to pay for your strips, WOW! Still haven't used the system, waiting for the pharmacy to get some control solution in for me.
We first went to Sanibel about 50 yrs ago, before the causeway was built. The ferry ride was part of the Sanibel experience. I have a great photo of my oldest daughter showing me a tiny shell she had found. We went back years later, and it was so built up! But the shelling was still good.View Thread
I got a Nano yesterday, but I don't have strips or controls yet, so obviously haven't tried it out (earlier Roche meters came in a "starter kit" that included a few strips, and maybe control solution). I can't get stripe til I use up all the ones I have for my Mini...and that will take a few weeks. Maybe I'll just buy a small package of strips!
Will let you know if I like the new meter when I get around to using it.........
Tang, many cities have programs to help adults read better. Here in Indianapolis, we have a free program, pairing a student and a tutor...it doesn't cost the student anything, except some determination and hard work. Many of our students have gotten their GEDs, some have even gone on to college.
Start by checking with your local library and the school district. They should be able to direct you.
Michelle, I don't know what to say. You've fought long and hard, and really deserve a break. Your idea of working with others in the fight themselves sounds good; you can help others and help yourself at the same time.
