nutrijoy, I love the last idea -- that Forums do not have to follow suit ( in the progressively degenerative nature of uncontrolled diabetes)and be "progressively degenerative" also (my interpretation of your words). Oh my! Every article about diabetes has an author who will SELL you a wonderful plan (in his opinion) telling you how many berries to eat, and whether to put soy milk, or almond milk, or full cream, or skim milk on them. Some plans allow all kinds of fats, some are heavy on pasta and deserts, , some are vegan, etc.
In other words, it depends on what your goals are, how much math and research you are willing to do, what your weight and A1c and fasting sugars are, what meds you are on, and how much exercise your are willing to do daily to burn up those calories and sugars. It also depends on whether are you type 1 (insulin dependant) or type 2. Ask you doctor for a plan and at the same time start doing ressearch on your own. My A1c is 5.8 and I eat only 80-100 grams (not servings) of all carbohydrates a day unless I exercise heavily. I am a 75 yr. old femal, 137 lbs. Most of my diabetic friends eat a lot more and take more medicines and don't worry. Start by clicking on any of the information by our site mentor, Dr. Dansinger, upper rightcorner.

I listened to the webcast. The first topic was how to gain weight (mostly for a type 1) on a restricted/low carb diet. The answer given by Dr. Bernstein - ****as I understood it****- was to eat more protein and cover it with more insulin if necessary at the meal in which the extra protein was eaten. Protein also needs insulin, but not nearly as much as carbs. Also, insulin is a weight gaining hormone. Again, this is only my understanding. Be sure to run this by your doctor.View Thread

Dr. Bernstein's Diabetes Solution actually recommends weight lifting/muscle building exercise over aerobics for diabetics. I just sent a question into his website about my sugar dropping during exercise, only to find the answer on pp. 220-222: For me, I need to actually take 1/2 glucose tab every 15 mintues during the exercise session. I have been climbing the high sand dunes as well as swimming and walking 1 mi. a day, and doing core exercises in the gym. My favorite equipment is the BOSU ball and TRX straps that attach to the wall.View Thread
Whole grains are better than "Wonder Bread" for vitamins, nutrients, and fiber, but NO better for diabetics than white bread as far as total carbs go, and worse if the slices are extra heavy, according to recent studies. Even my diet books, including diets for diabetics, written by well-known doctors usually include a one sentence disclaimer like "Be sure not to exceed your daily and meal carb limit!". Also many doctors allow a very low limit of total grams of carbs per meal if that is what it takes to keep a person's blood sugar in the normal range without continously raising the meds or insulin, and many allow NO grains at all, because the amount of nutrition per carb is less than with green leafy and low starch veggies. In other words - a lot of empty calories per volume of food intake.View Thread
daviss4, This post is two years old. To get more replies, scroll to the top of the page where there is a wide light blue line and click on the orange rectangle with the words Post Now. There is also one of those at the bottom of this page. It will give you an up to date opportunity to submit your questions. You will need a lot of information on the kinds of food to eat that don't make your blood sugar go up and down so much. It is also helpful to go to Walmart, Target, or Walgreens and buy an inexpensive blood testing meter (one with the least expensive testing strips) and have the pharmacist tell you how to use it if you want to start taking data. It is good to start now rather than to wait 6 more months to let the diabetes get worse.View Thread
I tried to look up this poster and found nothing. Is this post for real? It sounds very fishy. Sorry, but plain vinegar won't cure yeast permanently to say nothing of sickness, fatigue, weakness, chapped hands, vision problems, dehydration, and diabetes. You say "nothing to lose" by spending only $1.50 for a cheap vinegar "cure". How about your vision, and your life?View Thread
