I've found that it's almost impossible to grow from seed because the seeds are so tiny. I pick up the plants at Lowe's each spring. Some people can winter it over, but I've not had any luck at this.

Persians pickle vegetables and herbs and spices in vinegar and eat a spoon or two with their meal. It is called Toorshy. It is available in Middle east stores or make your own. Recipes on Iranian cook books.View Thread
I knew I needed to do something and I started reading the WebMD columns on diabetes and weight control, what foods did what and so forth.
I started with some high dollar weight control plans and it helped but the real world was out there so I watched what slim and healthy folks ate while at lunch etc., read some health nut books, read WebMD all the time, listened to medical professionals and developed my own system and it goes like this:
I cut out all High Fructose corn syrup, I've heard pros and con about this substance but I figured I could live without it. I read all ingredient lists at the market for carbs per serving and sugars etc. I also kept an eye on the total calories etc. and embarked on a 1800 calorie a day diet, w/ no more than 45 carbs per meal.
Jan. 15, 2011-plan start:
Morning at wake up - small bowl of sugar free high fiber cereal (shredded wheat or similar) w/stevia for sweetening, skim milk, black coffee in mug for drive into work.
9:00am - water, banana, hard boiled egg w/calorie free hot sauce, salt & pepper;
Noon - cafeteria entrees like chicken breast, hamburger patty, roast beef, or 1/2 portions of things like lasagna, spaghetti w/Parmesan, I ate whatever the item of the day was but used my head with the items, no potatoes , except once in a while - a small baked; veggies if not smothered in butter or sauce; salad w/vinegar and light olive oil. fruit like apple or cantaloupe slice mabey both.
2:00 pm - apple, hot green tea.
3 - 4 pm - Drive home - water and a banana
Dinner: 1/2 Togo's daily special sandwich ($3.99 eat half one day, half the next) loaded with all the trimmings sometimes light mayo. Or, 1/4 of foot long at Subway (or - 1/2 6" sand.), mabey a small glass of juice or skim milk but always a full glass of water.
Late night snack - no sugar added yogurt (Ralph's has a good carb lite brand)
I also tried to stay away from artificial sweeteners but use Splenda if that's all I have around.
I felt bad for awhile while on the diet but soon I started to feel better and now feel very good (excellent is down the road).
I do not feel hungry at all and I think the spacing and eating 5 - 6 times a day as written above helped tremendously.
as of 06/21/2011-
weight - 243 lbs (down 36 lbs); A1c - 5.9% (considered non-diabetic but I am still on half the diabetes medication I was on last year and and hoping to stop taking it all soon)
I hope this helps someone else. I'm still working on it.
Goals: no more diabetes medication; get down to 200 lbs and see about more after that.View Thread
(Pfizer) has offered a rebate on the purchase of Lipitor in order to keep its customers after the patent expires. Pfizer will rebate up to $50 a month each month from now till 12/31/2012 for the purchase of Lipitor. In order to qualify you must pay at least $4 a month for the Lipitor and the State or Federal Gov't can't subsidize your payment. Your own personal insurance can make payments with you making a co-payment. My brother took his 3 month prescription to his pharmacy and he paid $12. I sent my receipt from my mail order pharmacy for a 90 day prescription and received $58( my cost was $70). The phone number is 1-888-547-4867 and the automated system will ask if you want the $4 co-pay card, which you do. After you give certain info you will receive the Rebate package in the mail in about 4 weeks.
I put this out here because I know a lot of us diabetics also have problems with high cholesterol. If this info violates the forums rules then I sure it will be deleted.View Thread
The following strips/meters are affected;
Precision Xceed Pro
Precision Xtra
Medisense Optium
Optium
OptiumEZ
ReliOn Ultima
Here is a link to the FDA test strip recall.
I wondered WHY my Bayer always read higher than my Optium Ez which I like better. I need to check my lots numbers myself, I expect I may have, and been using, some of the recalled strips.

This is what I ate and dropped 40 pounds in 4 months. I never felt deprived, antsy, jittery, never craved anything.
I crisped up 100% whole wheat tortilla's in the frying pan.
I heaped a pile of spinach on top.
Cheddar cheese on top
Reading the label on shredded cheese I nearly fell over. Potatoe starch! Yikes, thanks but no thanks, I'll shred myself.
Sometimes I put tomatoe sauce on the crisped tortilla, basil, spinach & homemade shredded cheese. Pop it in the microwave til the cheese is melted, enjoy.
I like this group. I'm glad I fell into it tonight.

1. Access the web site you want to link to.
2. Right click on the site's address at the top of your page. It will be something like "http//www.webmd.com/"
3. Click on the Copy option in the drop-down menu that appears.
4. Create a discussion, tip, resource or reply to a post in a WebMD Community.
5. Get to the point in the text of your post where you want the link to appear, go the top of the reply or create box, click on the symbol that looks like a figure 8 on its side — if you hover over that symbol it will say link.
6. Another box will appear on your screen. It will have http// already in the box highlighted in blue. Simply right click in that box and select the Paste option from the drop-down menu.
7. Click on OK and the link will appear in your post. When you actually submit your post, you can click on that link and you will be taken directly to that web site. You may need to click on Continue if prompted to do so.
This method allows an easy way to directly access linked websites.View Thread
As far as the high blood sugars, every doctor has a range they expect not only for your protection but the baby's as well. You may want to re-evaluate your meal planning and see if there are some changes you can make. Good luck.View Thread
