Even worse is the thought that even though I can gain 5 pounds easily in a couple days, it takes at least five WEEKS to get it back off again without starving or going low.View Thread
I went to the hospital 2 weeks ago for another problem, had my blood tested and found out it was 762, I was told by the doctor on duty, that if I had went to sleep anytime that day, I would probably never have woke up. I did not realize I had diabetes but for me it was a wake up call that I will never forget. Thanks to my fiance we are both on the diabetes diet and both exercise now more than ever.
I urge all of you to get your blood check and take care of yourself.View Thread

Two Member Communities-with excellent members:
Type 1 Diabetes Community
Diabetes and Kidney Community
Some great expert communities:
Fitness and Exercise -with Rich Weil, who in addition to being a fitness pro is also a certified diabetes educator and can address exercise related questions for people with diabetes.
Food and Cooking Elaine Magee is a dietitian and has written a book called Tell Me What to Eat if I Have Diabetes-that I personally love. She also is a whiz at converting unhealthy family favorites into something healthier while still tasting yummy.
Diet An excellent community with expert Dr. Pam Peeke who is incredible and has some great ideas on getting your MIND in gear as well as your body.
Currently (through August) we have guest expert Dr. Judith Wurtman who has written a book called the Serotonin Power Diet and specializes in losing weight when on antidepressants and talks about just why some diets make you cranky. (Note: This may not be an appropriate diet for people with diabetes--I have gotten a copy of the book but haven't finished it--but very interesting research behind it and the expert can address the questions you have related to depression and diet.)View Thread
The hormone insulin of any kind, your natural insulin or insulin by injection, is primarily a fat storage facilitator, along with its job of transportating sugar into the cells.
When a person is diabetic, the balance of insulin and carbs is more critical since carbohydrates affect the insulin response most, especially high glycemic carbs. Proteins affect the insulin response less, and fats not at all. Therefore, the insulin doesn't spike as much after eating proteins, and shouldn't change at all after eating fats --IF the total calories don't go over your required amount.
The average amount of calories needed for a woman of average height and weight with no special conditions and with average amount of exercise is only 500 total calories a meal. If a woman eats more than that, or is mostly sedentary, less is needed, and gets deposited in the body immediately as FAT.
The body chemistry needed to burn off that fat, is much more complicated than the process of not putting it into your mouth in the first place.View Thread
"Ak-Mak" sesame crackers.
Four of them have 20 gms carbs, 4 gms fiber, 5 gms. protein.
"Trader Joe's" carries them & I've found them at several markets.
The company that makes them is Armenian & they make several whole grain products. www.akmakbakeries.comView Thread

Whenever you get a Cal Error, it will tell you to Meter BG. You will normally get two chances to get a good calibration. If, you get a second Cal Error you will get a Bad Sensor reading and you will need to insert another sensor. This is what I found to help avoid getting a bad sensor.
Turn off the sensor, do everything that is needed to get a good stable glucose reading. This may take some time. Restart the CCM. You can choose the new sensor or lost sensor button and it should start working again.
I should add that I also, look at the ISIG number to give me an idea if the sensor is ending. Another words, if it's low like around 5 that's usually a sign that it probably needs changing so, trying to restart it would be a waste of time.
Hope this helps!View Thread
a) What is the optimal glucose number through out the day?
b) What is the number should be when first wake up in the morning?
c) What is the number should be before bed?
I have started my testing according to my doctor request, and found something puzzled me: fasting before breakfast 90, after 33 minutes exercise then it rose to 114, why? this happened everytime when I exercise with empty stomach.
My before bed were often under 100. But in the morning they would be about 20's or so count higher. What caused my sugar to rise when I did not eat anything until the next morning breakfast?
Can anyone help?View Thread
