What's Happening Now
You just need to watch the serving sizes on it just like you would anything else. The tendency to think "juice is healthy-I don't need to count it" adds a lot of pounds to a lot of people. Posted by Louise_WebMD_Staff
OK, let's hear it from everyone. What say you out there? Will taxing foods and beverages help reverse obesity?

Interestingly, a large number of bottled water companies use tap water, so you're right back to go! Once the water from your filtration system is poured, flavor it up in a pitcher with slices of cucumbers, oranges or lemons and keep it in the fridge for a refreshing way to keep yourself hydrated. Or, make tea--- iced or hot --- with one of the great green, black or herbal teas out there. Some are made in combos like peach green tea and taste wonderful. If you like to sweeten, add a little Agave syrup which is sweet and 4 x as sweet as honey so you use 1/4 as much.
Good luck!

Crusie dining rooms are fairly helpful with salads, steamed veggies and lean meat when I asked. Buffet had the healthy, but some of the hi-cal was too tempting. Walking the decks was good exercise.
After my next cruise, then it's road trips for the balance of the year, so my question: How can I get healthy food in restaurants, short of getting a shrimp cocktail and salad with no dressing? Sure, I try to find good selections, but sometimes grilled means fried in butter & most places don't want to sub what they show for healthy sides, etc. Posted by John_Houston

Sounds like you are sensitive to GI effects from certain foods so you also want to be on the look out for sugar alcohols which can cause gas, cramping and diarrhea pretty quickly after you consume them. This would be Mannitol, sorbitol, maltitol, etc. They are in some reduced fat and sugar free products.
With probiotics the key is taking the right strain (they each have different effects). The strain/products that help withÂ
* lactose maldigestion is:
all yogurts with live, active culturesÂ

activia yogurt and Yakult

This is the year I want to learn to dance, well.
One of my favorite movies is a Japanese movie made several years ago called "Shall we Dance?"
That would be awesome to start as a novice and become expert. Plus, what a workout! Posted by jambajuice
You say you feel fine, but are you actually fit--- nutritionally and physically?
Next, get your body composition done. Have someone measure your body fat percentage so that you know how much muscle and fat you carry on your body. I'd also have a fitness assessment done. Have a look at my book Fit to Live as it has a full evaluation for women over 50.
You probably are quite low on muscle mass. Clearly you need to be doing regular physical activity to achieve and maintain an adequate level of fitness and to build and strengthen muscle.
Your current status is already impacting on your psychological wellbeing. You need more than piling on weight. You need to feel healthy and fit. And you have homework to do to accomplish your goal.
Please let us know how you're doing.

Treats are wonderful. However so many people don't realize that when they think they're treating themselves, they're actually going back to every habit that packed on the pounds in the first place. Hey, redefine treat for your New Normal life. Sharing that dessert instead of eating one all yourself.
Many of my patients actually see the weekend as a golden opportunity to take better care of themselves. Now they can get outdoors for that walk or hike without having to sweat running back to the office. Here's a great time to get the whole family up and engaged with fun while being healthy--- everyone goes biking or walking.
Finally, what you----as someone who is trying to remove excess weight or perhaps has removed it and wants to maintain that achievement--- are preparing to eat shouldn't interfere with what other people are eating. Kids, men and women have different nutritional needs and require different portions. Try not to drop what you've done so well during the week just because someone needs something different to eat. Stick to what works for you. Yes, it's tempting and often a great challenge to prepare lots of high cal fare for others when you know you may over-eat. If you want to have a treat have it within reasonable limits. Remember to taste and savor, not gobble up.

Egg white omelette with veggies and low fat cheese, with a side of blueberries (or mixed berries)
Oatmeal with flaxseed, chopped walnuts, cinnamon topped with blueberries (or mixed berries).
Protein shake make with a scoop of whey protein powder, skim milk or nonfat yogurt, frozen or fresh fruit, and a dash of honey or agave.
In a pinch when there's no time, grab a whole wheat pitta and put several slices of low fat cheese inside and warm it in the microwave, then grab an apple and run out the door. You can also add low fat peanut butter or put some chicken or turkey inside along with lettuce or any veggies you can find. Yes, it looks like lunch but it works any time of day.
Good luck!

Wanted to add CONGRATS for stopping smoking!!!
I know how hard that was. I smoked for over 10 yrs.. I didn't want to stop the smoking because I knew I would gain wt. I did gain some wt. but it was worth it in the long run.
Smoking destroys your health on so many levels
You can work on losing wt but you can't grow new lungs and heart.
Good for you!!!
ps at my dr's appt today a med ass't 's b'frd was dying a complication from smoking. Posted by barbara4u
Fiber will save your life. Soluble fiber traps bad cholesterol (LDL) before it's absorbed in the gut, reducing your risk for heart disease. Insoluble fiber shwooshes through your gut cleaning it out and keeping you regular.
You should try to consume about 30 grams per day, and ideally 10 grams at each main meal. If you haven't been getting enough fiber for a long time, then start gradually beginning with about 15 grams per day and building up over time.
Most food sources contain both soluble and insoluble fiber. Oatmeal, whole grain bread, cereal and pasta, popcorn, fruits, veggies, and beans are great sources of fiber.
Here's to good eatin'! Dr Peeke Posted by Pamela Peeke, MD, MPH, FACP
