Eggs at Breakfast May Delay Hunger - A Morning Meal With Eggs Makes You Feel Full Longer Than Cereal, Study ShowsView Thread
I'm 20 years old and about three weeks ago, I changed my eating habits pretty drastically. I gave up sugary drinks (soda, juice etc) entirely, started eating at least two servings of raw fruits and veggies periodically 4 times a day, and drinking approx. five 16-ounce glasses of water daily. I saw almost no change. Then, two weeks ago, I started working out on an elliptical machine we have at home for an hour a day, 6 days a week, and for the 7th day I spent that hour outside with a combination of "suicide" sprints, step-ups, running, jumping jacks, push ups, jumping rope or just generally keeping my heart rate up playing some type of sport for the whole hour. In the last week and a half, I've lost like 17lbs so now I'm down to 213. My mom was really worried that I was overdoing the exercise and told me that I needed to stop because I don't have health insurance and it's not healthy for me to loose weight that rapidly. I, on the other hand feel amazing. I used to hate working out but now I just feel super pumped and energized.
I have been diagnosed with GAD (generalized anxiety disorder) and since I've started I haven't felt super stressed out (I know it's only been two weeks since I started, but the change in attitude is remarkable.) I also have asthma and I have noticed that my chest feels more open now and I feel like I can actually breathe better without using my inhaler, and I've even been getting a better nights sleep and waking up feeling refreshed. I guess my question is whether or not I need to slow down on the exercise? Is what I'm doing unhealthy? I don't really have a goal weight, I just want to be healthy.View Thread
I've read a few articles that differ in opinion, but generally I've gathered the following: I should consume a combination of complex and simple carbs 30 minutes prior to working out to burn fat or a combination of complex carbs and protein 30 minutes prior to working out to build lean muscle. Is this correct?
Post workout is even more of a mystery. I used to drink a whey protein powder smoothie comprised of one scoop of whey powder (GNC Pro Performance AMP Amplified Wheybolic Extreme 60), water, frozen strawberries and bananas. Then I read an article about a carb/protein ration that must be achieved post workout (.15 grams of protein times my weight and .25 grams of carbs times my weight). To achieve this I substituted water with fat free milk. The milk, whey, and fruit gave me the perfect ratio and provided some much needed calcium (very tasty smoothie as well). That lasted a few weeks until I read an article that milk slows down the absorption of whey, so I changed my post workout shake to just water and whey. I also so a few blogs that suggest I consume my protein immediately and then follow it with a meal consisting of more protein and carbs.
I HAVE NO IDEA WHAT TO DO AT THIS POINT. The amount of information on the internet is so overwhelming. The studies, opinions, blogs...they all seem to contradict themselves (e.g., Earlier tonight I saw a study from 2006 that said carbs post workout is bad. On the very same website I read an article that discussed how vital carbs are post workout). Please tell me what I should be doing pre and post workout. I feel like I'm always on the verge of doing something totally wrong and the more research I do, the worse it gets. lol
To put it more succinctly:
1. What types of carbs (simple or complex) and/or protein should I consume pre-workout?
2. How much protein (and carbs, if necessary) should I consume post workout? If I am consuming carbs post workout, which type?
3. Should I consume my post workout protein with my carbs to meet the ratio (e.g., like the smoothie I mentioned above made of whey, fat free milk, and fruit) or should I consume my protein with water followed by a meal of carbs and more pretein?
I know this is a lot (sorry). Thank you in advance for your time.View Thread
Breakfast is 2 hard boiled eggs without the yolks, and a banana. If I DO deviate from that I have plain oatmeal. Lots of water during breakfast and up until lunch.
Lunch is a Lean Cuisine entree and a lot more water. Mid afternoon if I have anything it's fresh veggies like cucumbers or carrots. With more water.
Dinner time is the time to be creative. I will always start with ground turkey or ground chicken on meat days, and salmon on fish days. Where I go from there is the creative part. Some nights I fry the turkey with some chopped onion, add some baby leaf spinach and wrap it in a gluten free tortilla. Other times I boil it in a little chicken stock and add some brown rice.
Night snack depends on my mood. Some nights will be a cup of raspberries. Other nights I may have tuna right from the can to get the protein burst if I am having hunger pangs.
Basically I have a bunch of food "modules" that I treat as interchangeable parts. I am more into counting carbs and fats and getting a lot of protein than counting calories. It's worked in the past and I'll keep you posted.
So what is your average day like?View Thread
Why can't I stay below 300... I feel great, my clothes fit better but for some reason there I go again...
My husband likes me how I am now! I think he is afraid that I will lose my weight and leave him...
I hate myself for being this way, but I've been heavy most of my life but never this heavy...
What can I do or do I need to talk to someone?
Thanks.View Thread

Food Cravings That Wreck Your Diet
My big problem is my sweet tooth! All of the foods I crave are sugary and lead to more and more cravings - I have to try and avoid dessert like treats or the whole day goes off the rails.
What do you crave? And do you have any tips or tricks to keep on a healthy eating path?

This has been hard for me because I used to be 100% healthy and was never sick. It has been hard to explain to people why I won't eat certain foods when we go out I have trouble finding foods to eat, especially at chain restaurants. Plus, I am not a size two and they cannot figure out why I am not super skinny if I don't eat fried foods (I love cheese and bread). Sometimes, I wish I could be a normal 24 year old who doesn't have to explain and talk about my diet as a topic of conversation when out to dinner with friends. They don't mean to be mean, but it still hurts when they have harsh words about me trying to lose weight (when really I am trying to not throw up). I know it could be worse, and there has been good to come out of this situation. I don't have a choice about eating healthy.
But, I wish it could be easier to find foods that are healthy and not fried. Even when I try to avoid these foods I still have problems when I go out to eat and sometimes eat foods that make me feel sick. I think I am in the clear with what I am eating and it turns out that I am not.
I have heard from other people that have these problems that Probiotic and Digestive Enzymes can help if you do happen to accidentally have something that makes your stomach upset.
Do these help? Can I take them together? What should I look for when I go to buy them? Do I have to worry about them having sugar alcohols in the tablets? Can I take them with a vitamin pill?
Any direction would be helpful. Also, what type of diet would be best for someone like me? I love to cook. Can coconut water help? Some people think calms the stomach.View Thread

See anything wrong with it? What are you thoughts?View Thread
The problem is for the next three days I couldn't eat enough. Now I just weighed myself, and I've gained three pounds in three days. Definitely not a good trend. One day off the diet wagon I could forgive, but I shouldn't have indulged for three days. I'm very mad at myself. I was trying to think why it got so out of hand for the extra two days? I think part of it was that I got out of sync with my schedule of drinking 64 ounces of water during the day. Perhaps that has been helping me more than I realized. So I'm going to concentrate on that today. Hopefully, I can get back on track here.
If I was more evolved as a person, I guess I would exercise during an emotional crisis instead of eating. Does anyone else have any suggestions for what to do when you hit those triggers?View Thread
