Amen, Judy! YOU have walked the walk and KNOW what being obese is like and HOW to change your life and health. Your words have so much more meaning to those of us who are trying to follow in your footsteps.View Thread
I do agree that obesity, or at least for me, food addiction, is a disease. And while I also agree that eating a healthy diet is the key to maintaining weight loss, if I thought that simply eating what I want of healthy foods would work for me to get to my goal weight - yowser! I'd be one happy lady! During the last year of removing weight (averaging 2 lbs. a week over a year), I have learned so much about nutrition and was truly shocked when I first started tracking my food. My fats, protein and carbs were all out of whack, not to mention my nutrients. I have learned so much. Yes, Brunosbud, with the changing in food choices I have made I would lose weight anyway, BUT restricting and counting calories is what has removed the weight. I have done the calorie restriction in the past and lost weight, but now I know that not changing WHAT I eat is why I always put it back on.View Thread
1. Heading out in minute to walk on the local greenway. Got to get myself moving more. 2. Swim today and tomorrow if the rain stays away. 3. Eat fresh squash from a friend's garden and some dark green veggies. Didn't get as many greens in this week as usual.View Thread
Hi Haylen, Memorial Day weekend was great fun, but those cookouts were tough! I was up a lb. on Tues., but got back on track and that lb. is gone. Today is cooler here, so I plan to take advantage of that and get a good walk in and some swimming this afternoon. June is the month that I plan to reach 100 lbs. lost (2 more lbs.). So, my goal is to keep up the exercise and continue to track my food consumption. The healthy journey continues....View Thread
Hi Haylen, Hope you are enjoying your holiday weekend. My plan is to enjoy my time with family and friends this weekend. Had a lovely day yesterday with friends I don't see often. My friend prepared a delicious Mexican casserole and I enjoyed it - watermelon for dessert! Got some swimming in yesterday afternoon, so good day overall. Today a cookout with friends, tomorrow a cookout with family - too fun! Will eat as healthily as I can while having some fun!View Thread
I agree, Brunosbud. The politics that drives the school lunch program is astounding. Back in my day, we didn't have choices. Each student was served the same thing. I think, although I was unaware of good nutrition back then, that our lunches were fairly balanced. There's too much money involved to make appropriate changes at a level where it should be made; parents are the only hope our children have of learning good eating habits. I was certainly not a good role model for my son and I regret that. He on the other hand is raising 2 healthy boys who eat the ocassional junk food, but are lean, mean socer playing teens.View Thread
Oh Nursingbug, my heart goes out to you (and prayers if you don't mind). You are going through something that I cannot imagine and no one should have to do so. You are so right about there are more important things than worrying about the weight right now. Please keep us posted.View Thread
Yesterday I happened to be at home during the day and watched Dr. Oz on the Racheal Ray Show. He measured her waist and had her suck it in and pulled the tape measure tight! I had no idea - I've been keeping it loose and not sucking in. What a difference it made! I don't know what I did before but now I'm a 35 waist! Still way too big, but definitely better. Who knew!!!!View Thread
